I can't believe it. I was going to say, "No, that's a GP7". I was interpreting "Cadillac" SP-fashion to mean SD9!

rare? thats cool, i love the unique! I have only found one picture from 1944 of this locomotive in black and white, and so as far as i can tell, Lionel did their homework. Initially, a freind of mine had said that only one challenger had oil burning tenders (this later prooved to be false) but i tried researching alittle more about the unit, since i like to know the history of my cool stuff. Where can i find out more about UP 3976?

Usually my layout is dark, but somehow the lighting worked perfectly!
the sun sets as a NJ transit cab car is pushed into the station. weary commuters and travelers are glad that they can finally take their seats on the train.

FINALLY INTRODUCING THE AMERICAN GK E60CP! Half the fun of this hobby is getting something new and unusal like this! Looks like they came faster than I thought. I can't wait to get to work on them. these things are monsters, they are bigger than just about all my locomotives, excpet for the Challenger, SD80MAC, and GG1. They totally dwarf my other NJ transit commuter engines like the ALP44 (one of them will be NJT 958), so thats gonna looke crazy. the decals and things will probably get here monday, so i'll have to work on them when i get home next week, right in time for next week's photo fun thread.

A couple of "Cadillacs" . I hadn't heard that expression until you used it Gus. Does that mean the SD9 was considered a pretty good loco to run or was that a sarcastic nickname?

CNJ999, I don't think I've seen that one before but I have to say any pic you post is a source of inspiration for me. What a beautiful layout! I like it too for some of the best Fall colors on a model railroad I've ever seen. They remind me of my Upstate NY boyhood home.

Kurt, thanks for the compliment on the industry. Its a scratchbuilt approximation of a facility near Saugerties NY. I believe it was a kiln of some sort that creted aggregates for the cement industry (?) There were large cylindars behind the main structure and red hot stones dropped out of the front of it. A complex system of conveyors moved the black rocks to open hoppers. It was always a busy place and looked a bit Hades-ish at night!
