Good morning folks

It was raining this morning as we took the kids to football and basketball camps. The rain was surprise as the last time I saw the weather forecast last night they said nothing about morning rain. They talked about the possibility of thunderstorms later in the evening. High today is supposed to be 84 F.

We had a busy weekend even though we had nothing planned. On Saturday we went to New Hope and took a ride on a canal boat. We were disappointed in the shopping. In the past there were several unique shops that we always visited. Now, however, they are all gone and replaced by upscale jewelry and clothing shops. It is a shame because the town is losing its uniqueness as a result. On Sunday we drove out to Lancaster County. We visited the National Christmas Center, and the Amish Farm. We didn’t hit any of the train places since the Strasburg RR was having a Day Out with Thomas and the crowds are outrageous and we wanted to avoid that.

I even got some modeling in. I finished weathering the wheels I was working on. I also began weathering the trucks on the two Walthers gondolas, and six-pack of Athearn 40’ steel reefers. I even began weathering the trucks on a couple of Athearn 50’ flats with trailers.

Mikey, how was the Celtic Fling? Did you get caught in the mess on the Turnpike Saturday?

Morning. Rain??? Did someone say rain? Not here. All we can get is 1/2 of 1/10th about once or twice a week. :cry: Off to a ground breaking and then meet the powerline mowing crew at the pond/lease behind the house. Hot and HUMID here. Send rains not trains. :rolleyes: Have a good one.

Glad you got all that "important" stuff done :D :D :D

The Fling was great :) our friends had to play an extra half hour because the next bank had problems Friday night :) Really a great thing for us :D

That truck on the turnpike??? we went past it going East (Thank God) and when we passed it, it looked horrible..... I didn't even recognize the car that was under the truck.. :( there was a first backup 3 miles long and they were turning cars around and heading them back East towards Reading.. We had 4 lanes of traffic all heading East going 70 mph - - really looked neat....

Then at reading where the pike was closed - there was another 6 - 7 mile backup as they made everyone exit there - - It was really a bad thing :(

Seeing the wreck in person is way - way worse than on TV :( :(
 
Good afternoon folks

Hot and humid are the weather words for us today here in the Delaware Valley. High today is supposed to be 92 F. It was 72 F with heavy fog at 6:45 AM when I left the house this morning. The fog was pretty thick as I could barely see across the street. I just got back from the mall for lunch and it is hot and sticky out there. The air feels thick enough to cut with a knife.

I finished weathering the trucks on the 10 cars I am working on. I began weathering the decks of the two flat cars and the beds of the two gondolas.

I forgot mention yesterday that I was already to go to the Train Show in Timonium on Saturday. We were getting ready to leave when we found out that there was a huge traffic jam on I-95 South. Normally this would not be a problem since I don’t take I-95 South to go to the Baltimore area. This traffic jam, however, caused a backup on I-476 for 13 miles. Folks were dumping off I-476 onto US 1 and other alternates and creating havoc. US 1 is the route I planned to take. Also my other alternates were jammed so we decided to go to north to New Hope. One of these days I will make the show in Timonium.

Good Evening everyone.
We too could use some rain. We have been getting a lot done but taking lots of water breaks.
The heat was pretty bad here in Schenley today. It was 96 in the shade at 4 PM.
We had our day in by then so the AC felt good.
Finally got around to taking some photos tonight so I thought you might like to see one of our Caboose. The upload manager isn't working but it is on the picasa site in the link, KJR 4
Over the past 12 years I can tell you it averaged 2 gallons of coffee a day and at least a gallon of iced tea in the summer months.
If anyone is ever in the area stop by for a look and a coffee.

We could use some rain in the Twin Cities too. Mikey, I sympathize. The so called heat index (temperature and humidity) was 100 degrees yesterday. I guess a little cloudburst opened up just south of me but my lawn is dry and yellowing... :(

Yesterday wasn't too bad, it only got up to 111 here. Well, not as hot as it did 17 years ago yesterday when it hit the all-time record of 122.:eek: :eek: Yeah, I was here then and it was hot, but once it gets over 115, it's really hard to tell the difference.:p :p :p :p It could reach 115 by tomorrow, a bit "hotter than normal", says the weather people on TV.

I have a burning question, it always seems to be "hotter than normal" this time of the year, so why don't they adjust what "normal" is and we won't be "hotter than normal"?:confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:
 
Hi All

V-v-v-very c-c-c-cold here in S.A. Had the first snow in 20 odd years, will post some pics at a later date.

Will also be posting pics of a braai (or rather BBQ) a friend and I made like the firemen of old.

We had a power cut due to the local electricity people doing maintenance- it HAD to be on my day off- so we put on our thinking caps and got out his father's stokers shovel, put it over the fire and toasted our bread, fried some eggs and warmed up some mini pizzas- YUMMY!!

Of coarse that was before this cold front hit us.

Last night there was thunder and lightning and it even rained, then this morning we woke up to find snow around us. (My sister who went to Canada on holiday for two months says it's "packing snow")

Well, family all has the snivles and my sister has chicken pox!
I havn't had them so I've been steering clear!!
 
Good morning folks

Hot, hot, and humid are the buzz words in the Philadelphia media this morning. Our high is supposed to be 95 F (or 97 F depending on which forecast you listen to). The humidity is, let’s say heavy and you can cut the air with a knife. Temperature right now is 78 F and the low tonight is supposed to be in mid seventies. We are under an Excessive Heat Warning. The kids have football and basketball camp today and I am thinking that they will quit early. Yesterday afternoon when I left the office and got in the van which was parked in our freshly paved parking lot the temperature said 100 F. It dropped to 96 F by the time I got home.

I finished weathering the decks of the flat cars and gondolas. I also began weathering the two flat cars, two gondolas, and six reefers. Next I have to weather the trailers for the TOFC and airbrush weather all the cars.

I had a busy day today. I got three more desks ready to go out tomorrow. My boss broke his right hand yesterday when a 1/2" drill with a 3" hole saw kicked back on him, leaving him with his right hand in a cast, so I basically had to be his hands today. Under his guidance, I built a large desk with a built-in station for a computer tower on the left end and two large drawers on the right end and recessed shelf space in the middle. That took most of the day. I finally got it all together, got the wheels on it and got it into the poly booth and put the first coat of poly on it. Tomorrow morning, I'll hand sand it then put it back through the booth for the second and final coat, then the contract will be finished. Oh happy day, I won't have to look at any more desks this year! Yippee!
 
I had a busy day with a 7 hour round trip drive today. The best part of the day was having lunch with jefelectric. He was also kind enough to show me a short cut to the place I was going.

BTW John - Nice coupler on the back of your truck.

Renovo, I enjoyed the lunch as well. We a had a brief shower about 4:00 today, not enough to make much difference, but it settled the dust. Hope your trip was productive.


Tom, I asked before but you must have missed it. Are you an LNE fan? I have a few freight cars and working on putting TMCC in an Alco FA1 ABA. Looking for a caboose. I am in 3 rail O gauge.

Knowing how things have been going lately I probably did miss it. There are some days lately that I swear I forget everything.

I have become a fan of the LNE since I got back into modeling. I also model the Reading, CNJ, and the B&O. I model in HO. I do have a billboard LNE hopper in O for the “Christmas” train.

My wife spent some time in E-town as she called it when she worked for the Department of Corrections. She worked in Human Resources at Graterford. She used to have to visit the training academy several times a year.

Busy day in woods at lease. Think I burned candle at both ends. Not feeling good. Off to bed.
