Finally, my first building thread!

This is the first paper model of my life and the second time that I am building it (after the first met its terrible fate, crushed by the small hands of my one-year old son, two years agoXD).
So this is the model, that got me into paper crafting and I cannot recall how I discovered that peculiar art. Probably some random scifi spacecraft browsing on the web.
But this time I went for some "structural integrity" with some card in the neck, the main hull and some other spots to prevent hull breach from outer pressure overload;)
I probably will donate that model as a wall decoration to the room of my son

To be honest, I finished the model more or less a few days ago and since then two more models. But whenever there was time to post I found myself working on the next. Quite addictive.
But right now I am sitting with ill child on the couch, just my old slow phone to post here. So I make small posts with the building steps. Had to edit the first post a few times already:headbange::animated:

Laminating the accelerator ring to that thin stable board that you can find on the back of the paper blocks. Choosed that board because it can be bend easily without creating folds. Also used that board to fill out the small wings.

Then assembled the accelerator core part by part but started to glue on main hull inbetween. That order made it a little bit complicated to finish the core nice and clean.

After that, ring on horseshoe and putting engines on.
At last I began to patch up some paint damage from sweaty fingers and open connections between glued parts (pic 5 right above shuttle). But until now I did not finish that because I could not wait and started another modelXD. Even the solar panels are still missing. I will come back to that.

You are off to a great start! I like that you are using corrugated cardboard for internal formers.
I am looking forward to seeing how this turns out.

Awesome! :)

Please forgive me, this is totally off topic, but every time I see the term "building" in the title of a thread I'm looking forward to seeing the build of an architectural model, aka a BUILDING.

Great start all looks very 3C.
That too triggers me every time because I always read it as a temperature announcement (=> "3°C"). I always think, "Oh boy, it's pretty cold at your place!"

thanks for the appreciations. it bothers me a little, that I did not made that thread while in the making, because now don't remember every little issue or question I had. But then again I just learned with that model. especially how I set up my improvised "work station" and how to work with my tools and the specific (kind of generic cheap) glue. - btw any recommendations regarding glue? I use a kinda slow drying "hobby glue" and a fast super glue sometimes. The slow one I apply let it dry a little bit and then put the parts together. the fast super glue is really fluid at first, have to be careful not to soak the paper.

perhabs because english is not my native language. "build thread" would be better? I just wanted to let the title say "here is building going on". because I got the impression that the announcements for resources/templates are also located here were the build threads are

Very, very nice little ship! :)

I'm German, so English is not my first language either. ;)

I use standard "UHU Alleskleber" (solvent-based) glue for laminations

and "UHU Bastelkleber" glue for the regular build:

I put some glue on a piece of card and apply it to the flaps with a wooden skewer, toothpick or such. Since this glue is water-based it has to be applied sparingly.

nice. I am german too^^ thanks for the recommendations. until now I never did models, so I was unaware if there are special all time favorite glue on the model market. but this here are "stinknormale" glues^^

yes, I also found that putting glue on the card, that I also use as cutting matXD, and than working with toothpick is my way to go

I could see how difficult a one-year-old would have picking this up. I'm 67 and want to pick it up and play with it! :)

https://www.tumblr.com/newobmij is the original website.
The original website shortcut is non operational, but, I finally found it with the wayback machine.

Yes, with that I found it also two years ago. Some website was leading there. But I cannot recall how I found that. Deep diving through the web, discovering that people are building cool stuff with paper prints. And then I found this small one and this other site with bigger serenity versions

And @skyman00 here on this forum made some nice looking additions to the bowen model. Btw, how do I link or cite members in a post?

Hit the "reply" button in the bottom right corner of the posting box of the post you would like to quote. It is then copied in quotation marks into a new post where you can add your reply.

Type "@" followed by the nickname of the member you want to address, like so: @ElMäx .

The member in question will get an alert in both cases to notify him / her of the action. :)
