Does anyone know where the Orions can be found?

Does anyone know of an Orion fleet ship model from Star Trek?

There were very few in the entire franchise. None were shown in the original series until the remastered version [pic 1 & 2]; a ship that was described as a one-off, suicide ship. The first clear one was in the animated episodes, an admittedly odd looking, awkward ship [pic 3]. It wasn't until Enterprise that we saw a couple; a freighter-attack ship [pic 4], a small transport, and the more impressive interceptors in the Augment's episodes [pic 5-7].

Outside of canon, FASA made two often used and cited craft; the Orion Wanderer [ pics 8&9] and the Lightning [pic 10]. The Lightning paper model was offered by a site that appears to be down now.

Does anyone know of any other Orion ship models, or how to find the Lightning kit that was lost when the site was taken down?

No, that's the Orion from "Raumpatrouille" (= "Space Patrol"), the first German science fiction television show. Even though it is from the same era it has no connections to the original "Star Trek" - aside from the ingenious use of kitchen equipment as props. ;)

"Bones" did an unfinished version of the remastered ship with some intersections, but uploaded in the other forum:

i´m not sure that there is another one and if there is one, then only a game ripped model!

Maybe I can download it and tinker with it.

Is it a JPG version?

I may have to learn new things.

I need to learn how to mess with CADs and 3D mesh's, as there seem to be opportunities to create, and share with you all, such things. I'll just have to find software compatible with my computer and some tutorials.

Its kind of amazing, given how many Trek models are out there, and even some of the odd, rarely seen race's ships, that Orions are not represented weell.

Maybe it AINT easy being green?!!?!!

Ew, Pepakura! My 2 cents worth. I thought Pepakura could be saved to a .pdf format? Not sure but you could always copy the work to the clipboard (PRNT SCRN button) and open it with XNView. A free great program.

Where are you finding meshes for these ships?
Just curious.

Don't use the clipboard way, please. You'll loose a lot of quality and the scale of the parts can be screwed up. It is much better to export it as a series of images (PNG is preferred) or print it as PDF using a virtual PDF printer like PDFill. Exporting images is only possible with a fully licensed copy of Pep. If you don't have a license just print it as PDF and then convert the PDF into images (I used to go this route in the past when I unfolded the Colonial One and the Raptor). PDFill can do it, or import the PDF into the latest version of Gimp. ;)

If the PDFs are printed into JPGs, then they could be converted into JPGs for detailing, right?

Would you loose detail or resolution that way?

You're a big supported of designing unusual, forgotten Trek ships, Marko. Have you thought of doing an Orion? I would help sully some quality pics and diagrams?

You can import the pdf files directly in GIMP. Then you can edit the image with all the available tools

What mijob said.

Just print the PDO as PDF and import the single pages in Gimp OR use PDFill to convert them into *.jpg or preferably *.png. PNG compresses losslessly whereas JPG affects the quality of the image. Use a minimum resolution of 300 dpi to ensure a nice and crisp image. If you double the resolution you would have the chance to easily upscale the parts without getting too much blur.

Another thing could be handy: Export the PDO twice, one time with lines and another without. That way you can overlay the two and remove unwanted lines and keep important folding lines intact. ;)

I think someone should show how to go from pdo to pdf. K use parametric scaling, which is how I work around scaling problems. I dont use zpepakura at all. I do like how the program makes figurines of women, like the ones from "The Five Stars" manga.

This is great mentoring!

in the last years alot of people took low-poly 3d-models from Thingiverse and convert these to papermodels, including all the intersections.

....

Yes, thought on this and some other! I had the Gorn ship at last in work, but my biggest problem is still TIME! I have a full time job in a school and no time to do my hobby. Sorry.
BTW: I think, i know sites they you dont know;) with very good views like these here from Robert Bonchune, Co-Designer of alot Star Trek ships:

and his portfolio pictures with many many views:

Thanks for sharing the site. THat's some breath-taking work!

I sympathize, regarding time. Just trying to post organized material about the IPMC, after so many hours of work, can be a challenge. Doing what you do (designing some of the best models with the best instruction sheets and folios) would really be taxing! I wish I had the skill and equipment to help.

If anyone could make a solid Orion Interceptor, it is you. You'r work on the K-7 and the Cardassian ships (with optional modifications) is memorable. As was your Vor'Cha, with the multiple fore-hulls.

If you ever do though, I'll make time to build it!

I can't do a damned thing till my Ryzen 5800X CPU comes in and my ASUS MoBo B550 TUF 3rd Gen comes in. It's all taking much longer than expected but should be a great set up. I have an MSI R9 series with 8 Gigs of DDR4 video ram, but that may throttle the CPU 8 to 14%, the system will be so much faster, I doubt I'll notice it. I don't have $1200 bucks for a new GPU now.
They are so overpriced because of bitmining. Prices will come down in 6 to 8 months.
