    peterbilt 351

"be vewy vewy quiet, i'm hunting peterbilts" Are you certain that a Peterbilt's not hunting YOU? ;-) (Movie trivia -- the license plates on the front bumper came from the truck's previous victims. It's a serial killer on wheels...) Here's some reference links...

    Titanic For Dummies Thread

From the photo you can also see the two-dimensional ventilators, crude anchor and oversized portholes. The thought of somehow reducing all those portholes and keeping them in alignment killed my plans to scan and photo-edit the part sheets.

    Titanic For Dummies Thread

Beware the Betexa Titanic. The paper is glossy and there are significant inaccuracies. For instance, the lifeboats have red undersides (should be all white), and the superstructure is actually a very pale blue-gray! I can't recall the deck detailing exactly, but I think it was rather crude...

New Paper model publisher from Poland

That waving smilely is affecting the link. Try: http://www.kwmodel.boo.pl P.S. Don't let the company name fool you -- the first offering is a Bell P-39 D1 BE Airacobra, and judging from the gallery photos of the prototype, there's nothing "cartoon' about it.

    Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

I'd love to build the Grand Prix Paragon Panther racing version seen in the beginning of the film (before the accident, of course). I wonder if Uhu could follow-up on his Chitty model with this incarnation?

    Free Models - DIRECT Jupiter-120 & Jupiter-232

Thank you for designing these fantastic models. It was certainly a timely release -- NASA's "Battle of the Boosters" is the cover story in the February 2009 issue of "Popular Mechanics" magazine, and is reprinted here: http://www.popularmechanics.com/science/air_space/4295233.html The...

    Discovery

In Arthur C. Clarke's 1968 novelization of "2001: A Space Odyssey" (screenplay co-written with Stanley Kubrick), the dimensions of TMA-1 (the Mars monolith) were given in this passage: "One curious, and perhaps quite unimportant, feature of the block had led to endless argument. The monolith...

    1/72 Sopwith Triplane

With only four thick wing spars and the bottom two wings attached directly to the fuselage, this model should be far easier to build in 1:72 scale than most other WWI biplanes with multiple spars. Wing alignment should be relatively simple. A very elegant model of a noteworthy aircraft --...

    Paper C.S.S. Palmetto State ironclad

Vernon, Steve Lund and Bill Hathaway are members of the Ship Modelers Association. I've seen their ironclads, including the fantastic 1:32 scale USS Monitor. They held mock ironclad battles last spring at the opening of the new Monitor Museum. Not only did they transport these models by car...

Victorian battleships and steamships..can anyone help?

Very fine choices. Would HMS Inflexible be in her original rig, or her final configuration? HMS Benbow was an oddity among the Admiral class, but this does provide a common hull for the other Admirals. Have you considered HMS Alexandra? That would be a good example of the center casement...

    CSS Hunley

Actually most of the Hunley's rivets were flush with the hull surface to reduce friction. That submarine was FAR more advanced in design than we were led to believe all these years.

Victorian battleships and steamships..can anyone help?

By the way, are you familiar with David Hathaway's Paper Shipwright site? Paper Shipwright - Card Models I love the early ironclad to pre-dreadnought era. Possible suggestions: S.S. Great Britain -- still preserved. HMS Warrior -- also a museum ship. Gloire -- the first seagoing...

    Finished VATERLAND pics

Very impressive work! I experimented in reducing this model to 1:700 scale, and it's still about 16.5 inches long. That project's on indefinite hold since I wanted to open up the prominade and boat deck, and I was unsatisfied with the deck texture. Now I'm wondering about building this model...

New Titanic from Sir Currell - Beta Report

On another forum, Ralph mentioned that the model is in 1:1200 scale, just under 9 inches long. I suggested future models of the Olympic and Britannic, so hopefully we'll see the first complete set of the White Star sisters. Thanks for the pictures of the beta build. I've been patiently...

    TTA - Terran Trade Authority

The Terran Trade Authority? Ah, the memories... I thoroughly enjoyed that series back in high school. It was an exceptional example of graphic "recycling" -- taking former SF paperback cover art and crafting a massive historic context around these images. They even had ship specifications and...

    Praying Mantis 1/1 scale

Beautiful mantis, Peter! I sincerely apologize for not commenting earlier on your other masterpieces, but I've been "under the weather" for the last few months and this forum has a nasty habit of freezing up on me (possibly my dial-up connection). I look forward to personally seeing you and...

    Wilhelmsaven Liberty Ship

Beautiful job! I enjoyed your photos. Bill Geoghegan has reposted my two-part review of the John W. Brown, which was originally published in a now-defunct online magazine. He also has a photo walkaround of the actual ship. Take a look at: http://www.geoghegan.us/index.html

    Pennsylvania class battleships help

There was MAJOR rebuilding work on the amidships superstructure, removing all the casemented 5-inch guns and installing twin 5-inch turrets and 40-mm AA mounts. Boat cranes were replaced by small pole derricks, most boats except for the launches were replaced by liferafts (mounted on the main...
