    WWI Armor

The WW1 St Chamond and A7V tanks were fairly colourful but not that colourful. As far as is known the French Schneider and St Chamond tanks were factory finished in "horizon blue" - a fairly dark blue-grey colour. The crews applied various camo schemes with ochre, green and dark brown sometimes...

    SU-101 Russian self-propelled gun 1:25

I think it's an external tank for engine oil. The V2 engine had fairly high oil consumption - it makes sense to carry oil for the engine as well as fuel in the external tanks. The IS-3 had an external oil tank on the back of the engine deck - this tank looks similar in size. Regards, Charlie

    IS 2 For A Newbie

You get a choice of band or individual link tracks - which one are you going to attempt? The strengthening ribs in the roadwheels will test your resolve (and patience). Regards, Charlie

    SU-101 Russian self-propelled gun 1:25

Great job on the mantlet. May I suggest using sanding sealer rather than glue - this makes the surface much easier to sand to a smooth surface. (I'd better explain in case the product doesn't translate to other countries. To get a very fine finish surface in woodwork a sealer is used after...

    SU-101 Russian self-propelled gun 1:25

I thought the wheels were great but you've taken this build to another level. The cupola just amazing. If that's the beta build I can't imagine how good the production version's going to be. Regards, Charlie

    Tintin Rocket

I guess you mean Tintin's moon rocket. Jayo Sutton did a model of this a long time ago - it's hosted on Zealot - http://www.zealot.com/forum/downloads.php?do=file&id=107, enjoy. Regards, Charlie

    Post WW2 + Cold War

Want heroic action - try.... "During the invasion of the Syrian army into the Golan Heights during the Yom Kippur (1973) war, two damaged Centurion/Sho’t tanks engaged approximately 150 Syrian T55/T62 tanks. In the course of the following 30 hour tank battle, the two tanks knocked out over 60...

    Post WW2 + Cold War

The Canadians (AFAIK) used the same establishment as the British Army - one Firefly for each troop of "normal" Shermans - this works out to 19 Fireflies and 150 odd Shermans in a brigade. There is an M-48 in beta build over at papermodelers. The really glaring omission in AFV models is...

    Nobi's Cromwell Tank 1:35

Meant to mention this earlier - but football got in the way (real footy - Aussie rules)....Go Lions.... The "bolts" on the turret of the Cromwell aren't simple hex shapes but are conical. The Cromwell was uparmoured early in development - hex bolt heads would have been dangerous since...

    SU-101 Russian self-propelled gun 1:25

Looks like it was a T-44 engine although there wasn't a lot difference between the T-44 and T-34 engine. Even the T-72 engine is a modernised V-2. It would be interesting to know what the engine and transmission layout was in the SU-101. The gun compartment would have been very cramped with...

    SU-101 Russian self-propelled gun 1:25

Interesting vehicle.... I think the engine and transmission would have been from a T-34 since the T-44 used a transverse engine layout. Any plans to model the SU-102? - it's fairly similar except for the 122mm gun and slightly different mantlet. Regards, Charlie

    Post WW2 + Cold War

The Orel Char B1 bis was reviewed recently on papermodelers.com - it's apparently a fairly simple model e.g. no suspension modelling. I'm a bit surprised that others feel the same way I do about the range of AFV model subjects. I should say that one Polish publisher doesn't just follow the...

    Post WW2 + Cold War

I think the focus of AFV models is even narrower than just WW2. There are very few models of French vehicles, only a handful of British, Japanese and Italian vehicles and the US, which produced more AFVs than any other country in WW2, is poorly served by model designers. Aside from this...

Ordnance QF 25 Pounder Field Gun

Good choice of subject - there isn't (afaik) a large scale 25PDR around. If you need images - just ask - there's a 25PDR outside an RSL (Returned Services League) club a few km from my place. I think it's an Australian made one with a muzzle break. 1/16 seems to be a good scale for guns -...

Gpm scharfshutze 1:200 laser cut kit

It's not a German destroyer but built by the Austro-Hungarian empire before WW1. The Austrian Navy was pretty much restricted to actions in the Adriatic sea since it was bottled up by ships from the Italian, French and Royal Navies. Even so, some of the actions of the Austrian destroyers beggar...

GPM 271 PzKpfw IV TIGER MODEL BUILD

If you're adopting this solution I'd suggest making up a couple of strips of 1+mm card with locating holes for the torsion bars (bamboo dowels) and glue them on the inside of the hull so that you can ensure the swing arms will sit square on the hull. You might be able to just glue the dowels on...

GPM 271 PzKpfw IV TIGER MODEL BUILD

It looks like the GPM Tiger may suffer from the same problem as the Halinski one does. The attachment points of the swing arms rely on a small glued area to support the swing arm and the roadwheels. This doesn't work in the Halinski and probably won't for the GPM. I'd suggest devising an...

I would like to make some tank...

The armour models that used to be on models.icegroup.ru - T-70, T-26 and Su-76 (all 1/25) can be found at archive.org - PM me if you can't dig them out. There used to be a 1/25 M5A1 Stuart available - ask if you want a copy - this is at least as good as commercial models and not an easy...

    Orlik T-40 model build

Agreed that wire is a bitch to work with. As an alternative I've used cotton or linen sewing thread soaked in acrylic varnish. Just run the thread through the varnish and wipe off the the excess. Twist up the tow cable or whatever from a number of threads - 11 -13 seems about right for tow...
