    winter scenery

Thanks, Dave. I used fine plaster of Paris (from an art supply store) -- be careful, not all plaster is pure white. Used a fine sifter from the kitchen... To keep it from flying off, I sealed it with a fine mist of water from an airbrush. The stone bridges are also carved plaster. Be sure to...

    winter scenery

Hi Dave, About 25% of my layout is dedicated to winter scenery -- and it is my favorite part. I have photos posted in the Gallery, under Pond Junction and Rocky Creek RR. The snow scenes are near the end. I hope you can get "working" soon on your layout! Peter

    hiding switch mechanisms?

Woody, I have successfully covered the mechanisms with aluminum foil, then plastered and landscaped over them. No hint of the ugly things will remain. Frankly, I never understood why everybody does not do this... I just don't see the downside. Peter

    Winter attempt

Sorry -- bad choice of words (my Hungarian is showing). I use an airBRUSH because its spray is very fine and controllable. The droplets from spray bottles leave the surface pitted with little craters that look huge in N scale -- especially in close-up photography. Spray from the airBRUSH...

    Some Progress Photos

TexDoc, that is exactly how I feel about my work! When I am "done" with a scene, I usually feel good about it and am satisfied that I could not do better. Then, I see someone else's work, and I am blown away... and inspired! Or, a friend comments about something that looks out of whack. It...

    HOn3

Thanks for your thoughts Thank you Dennis and Sumter for your kind and thoughtful help! Looks like I could live with the N gauge track I have by hiding most of the ties, redo the tunnel portals, replace the structures, and I might have a nice HOn30 layout! I am sure I will have to add...

    HOn3

Thank you for your detailed explanation, Fred! HOn3 vs. HOn30 was always a mystery to me... So, what do you think about the std. N gauge track -- are the ties unacceptably too small and too many? Would I have to commit to lay new HOn30 trac? Thanks again for taking your time to help me. I...

    Motor bikes side car

Wonderful bikes! What scale? I have a weakness for sidecars -- my Dad had one as I was growing up in Budapest. Had to get one for myself in 1972; it was a Harley. Get one for your wife! They are great for long, comfortable rides...

    HOn3

Bunch of newbe questions Guys, I have a 12'x15' N layout, fully lanscaped, with 140' of track. I know absolutely nothing about HOn3, but the opportunity to include more detail in my layout intrigues me. Would it be impractical, or a sacrilge to convert the existing layout to HOn3? How wide...

    To-the-floor scenery???

Thank you, Galen; good ideas! Here is what John Allen did many years ago -- he just didn't go as far as making the floor look like water.

    To-the-floor scenery???

Most of us don't have as much model RR real estate as we would like. What do you all think of extending rocky scenery all the way to the floor, then finishing the access isles to look like water -- river, lake, inlet, etc. -- and creating an interesting shoreline. Could even have a perimeter...

    Winter attempt

Inspiration I added two photos of my inspiration -- John Allen's work -- to the Gallery at Pond Junction & Rocky Creek RR. Now, that is some serious modeling!

Question of the day, 11-21- train shows

Never been to a show -- I don't have much interest in the equipment/commercial side of the hobby... (If I have two good running locos and a few cars, I'm a Happy Man!)
