    building a saw mill

Josh Looking good man. That is a really ambitious looking project. I will be following your progress with great interest as I am now in the throes of figuring out what I want to do for a sawmill. I doubt I will do the interior detail you are doing but rather will concentrate on outside detail...

    Pulp, Ponds& Chainhauls

Will Here is how they transferred the pulp logs from the huge stock piles into the chipper building. It is a cement ditch through which they ran water then used grapple hooks on the cranes to dump in the pulp logs. It may not be what you want; but it is how one mill in the Northeast does it. Stump7

    Pulp, Ponds& Chainhauls

Will Here are some photos of a paper mill in Rumfprd Maine in the mid 90's. As you can see they use whole logs, "pulp" size wood as well as wood chips. If this photo works I'll send another. Stump 7

    Trestlework on the layouts

Gus The most important aid I found in building a wooden trestle was to build a jig. Lay out your plan as Glenn did on paper then very carefully built a jig over the plan. That way all the angles and lengths come out the same every time. I went crazy and wasted a lot of wood until I did this...

Question of the day, 11-21- train shows

    Season of layout

Hi wdsrwg You might want to look at the third edition of Dave Frary's book How to Build Realistic Model Railroad Scenery. He has a whole chapter on modeling the different seasons. On page 128 there is a picture of a layout he built for a museum in Vermont that includes multiple seasons. Here in...

    Algonquin Park "Highland Inn"

Andrew The first summer I was there was 1961 which was BC (before children). Both the Inn and steam were long gone.I don't remember if I took any photos of the foundation site. I do have some photos of the dock where one loaded up canoes and boats. I know I have photos of the trestle at the...

    Algonquin Park "Highland Inn"

Andrew I almost dropped my teeth when I saw the heading on your thread. I used to spend summer vacations at a leaseholders cabin on Cache Lake. We'd pile the whole family, 3 kids and a dog, into a 18" canoe and go off tripping for a week or more at a time. There was a post office, a small store...

    What do you have

Les Look for the lone pine tree against the backdrop, the split is right there, they're held together underneath by a couple of vise-grips. The pictures looked dark and a bit out of focus in the camera, I'm glad they look ok in the post. Stump7

    What do you have

Hi Gang Here are some photos of my 2 30" X 72" modules. I am at the scenary stage which is the hardest and slowest stage of construction for me. The first two are overall shots one from the north the other from the south, then a couple of closer-ups. I hope the photos show up ok. Guess I'm going...
