Man texting on phone - hits train

I refuse to answer or use my cellphone while I'm driving. As for text messaging, I have no use. Leave me a message, I'll get back. Make ya wonder how the world got along without cellphones 10 years ago.

    Css 2007

Hey everyone, It's been awhile since I've posted here. Been busy getting ready for the 2007 Craftsman Structure Show that's going on next weekend. Here's the link November 2nd & 3rd, 2007 - Craftsman Structure Show for those who are close enough to go, but didn't know it was happening...

    ? on truss/ girder bridges

Try these guys; Bridge index htm If by modern you mean welded then I think you will have to scratch them, but atleast you won't have to worry about the rivets. Actually, the Atlas girders are not that bad and kitbash into some nice bridges.

Need some help with a trackplan

Thanks guys, For those who worry about not getting thier trackplans right the first time, don't feel bad. It's taken me a year of virtual slicing and dicing to get it to this point and it still gets tweaked everytime I open the program. BTW, the program 3rd Planit has more than paid for...

    New Job, playing with Boats!

Glen, good for you. I did the same thing because all I had available were nothing but lateral moves. I got a offer I couldn't refuse to do something I barely had any idea of how to do and made the move. Best thing I could have done. My previous experience was relative in basics although...

did everyone stop playing with trains for the summer........?

They're not silly, they are fun! Well, if you like to ride, work on it, ride, work on it, ride, work.... It's still fun flying by some poor soul trying to get up a steep hill. I have one of the chinese engines that looks like a motorcycle engine. It has some issues, but it always starts. The...

Need some help with a trackplan

You're welcome to copy and slice and dice as you wish. There's a lot of double track in mine, but that's how it was in 1900, the era I model. you could very easily knock it down to a single track and stuff sidings in all over. With a 2 ft wide shelf you'll still have plenty of building's...

Need some help with a trackplan

The prototype for Vernon is here: Vernon Railroad Depot, Vernon / Rockville Junction, Vernon Connecticut I grew up about a mile from that location, but everything was gone except a single track main, one stub siding and the branch to Rockville. I always wanted to model the junction and always...

Need some help with a trackplan

Here it is. There's a few things that need to be corrected, but it's close. The tracks on the outside are hidden to create "surround staging", a la, Mike Hammer. I don't have a bunch of industries, but I do have two interchanges and expect a bunch of through traffic to have to deal with while...

    Gus' Springtime Kitbuild

Most wooden and concrete staved silos that I've seen used flatbar bands and not round bar. I'm not saying that rods weren't used, but the flatbar would help spread the load over a larger area, where the rod would dig in. Good or bad? I don't know. I think Campbell might have gone the fishing...

    Boring a Steam Engine Cylinder

Did someone have it in their toolbox, or do museums and rebuilders borrow each other's specialized tools that they have acquired over time? I know they didn't go down to Grainger's and buy that rig. I have seen a similar set up at a foundry's machine shop that was boring out the cored...

    Backdrop Help Needed

Paint it white/light gray at the horizon and blend into blue at the top. The sky isn't a constant blue. It'll be a good base for anything that is placed or glue to the front of it and you can always add clouds later on. see thread http://forum.zealot.com/t119402/#post443513 for what I am...

Talk about a rare HO piece!! wow..

$25 shipping? I would think that would be complimentary. I think I could use $5000 on more important things, but I guess it's all realitive. 5 grand is chump change to some, but not me.

    Curved/tamgent turnout?

I was looking at the same problem on my layout last night. I was playing around with a branch from the curved mainline and I didn't much care for the jog through a #6 turnout. I was planning on a wide sweeping curve throught the yard and that would kill the look. I plan on using CVties and...

Why, oh why, does this happen?

It may be your rolling stock's length. If the cars are long and the turnouts are sharp you get the dreaded "S-curve" effect. The only way to deal with that is to use longer turnouts (no less than #6), or shorter cars. Truck mounted couplers can help too. Regardless, get the NMRA's track...

    dioramas?

Both! We all like to see pics of layouts, even with just the benchwork showing. TomPM built a few dio's that had me convinced in the beginning that he had a larger layout, which he didn't start until later. I would build a seperate dio for your own for pics to keep you happy when you are...

    Opening a Hobby Shop?

If your locals are wealthy it's a definite plus, but I've seen one hobby shop survive in an area almost void of model railroaders and the owner didn't/doesn't even use the internet, much less no how. Not even a webpage. He started out a few years before the internet was even common place, so...
