    What rules?

Pretty much what I expected to eventually happen when the latest owners took over. I myself have found the vibe here in the last few months to be getting stale almost. Many thanks to all you mods for your work here and best of luck to your future endeavors. :thumb:

    New layout in the works.

This kit was really easy and went together quickly. Only took me two days. The lower section is painted Floquil Concrete, the upper sections are Testors Dark Aircraft Gray, and the the steel structures are Floquil Tuscan.

    New layout in the works.

Finished up the main building of the diary kit today. Looks pretty good. Gotta paint that chimney stack. Not sure if I'm build any of the buildings in the kit (there's 3 more). Once I get some of the trackwork done in this area I'll get a better idea of how the industry will be laid out and...

    New layout in the works.

My original idea was to simply use some "L" braces mounted to the wall for storing the cassettes, but instead went to using shelf standards and brackets. Makes positioning the brackets much easier. A look at how power gets to the cassette. There's contacts on both sides of the...

    New layout in the works.

Hah! They're not to terrible to manage actually. Just need to take my time moving them around when loaded. The tall sides and "just big enough" width helps keep things from tipping over too. Correct. Each side of the cassette will have copper strips on the bottom for power pickup. So to...

    New layout in the works.

Sure thing. I'm using a pretty basic method of storage. I'm (2) 1.5" (I think 1.5") L-brackets for each cassette on one of the walls, secured to a wall stud. Here's a look at the bracket installed on the wall. I added some rubber liner stuff I found at Lowe's to help keep the cassette from...

    New layout in the works.

Cut my access hole to the inside of the helix finally. Made doing the final wiring a breeze. The inner and outer tracks are now wired to be as their own blocks. Just need to cut the rail gaps. One issue I've been dealing with lately is the track at the end of the lower level...

    New layout in the works.

Here's a little rundown of some of the progress I've made on the layout. I got the tortoise and throwbar for the turnout on the upper level just outside the helix installed. This will be the east turnout on the siding through Elmwood. I also installed the tortoise on the lower level helix...

History Channel - another Train Series!!!

Amazing how seriously a simply TV show description can be taken. Sheesh.

What type of road bed do you use?

Cork on the main layout, foam in the helix (easier to lay long continuous curves). I just like the solidness of cork over the squishy foam.

History Channel - another Train Series!!!

Maybe they missed a zero there. edit: Although, reading the description again it sounds like more older steam trains will be covered rather than modern day stuff. "...reveals the incredible inner workings and past lives of the amazing locomotives that haul huge loads across the nation and...

    New layout in the works.

So here's my current layout plans roughly: Now currently, my staging idea is a swing staging "bridge", which contains 3 tracks on each level of varying length. Max about 5.5' It 'works', but it's really limiting my train length. A new idea I'm thinking of is adding a...

Yes. I purchased a license for both applications to make all options available (like saving).

Free Track Planning Software for Mac's

The 3D view isn't really "3D" for the track work and scenery itself (like some PC software can do). It simply shows a 3D view of the 'benchwork' really. Here's a 3D view of a R/C track design I made using the slot car track models in RailModeller: I can open up one of my old RM track plans...

Free Track Planning Software for Mac's

I've used Rail Modeller in the past, but have since switched to Empire Express. I like the better control you have on the flex track models. I found the latest RM releases to be a little more clunkier too than the first version. They changed the layout some, RM is nice because it uses a full...

    New layout in the works.

Today I worked on connecting the helix to the upper level, the mainline at least. Just need to connect the siding to the turnout. The turnout will be located behind the backdrop, so I installed an LED indicator next to the pushbutton switch. Green = mainline, Red = siding...
