    Train Show May 24-25, 2008

Hi Andrew. If ever you find your way to Huntsville, stop in at the shop and say hello. If I know ahead of time, we can arrange for dinner and a home layout tour.

    Scratchbuilt factory

Hi Val, you are doing a great job on that building. Please keep us up to date, I would like to see more of that. I too remember when it was a full size structure in Toronto.

    how goodare

I went with the Atlas Custom on most of my layout. I have a couple of Peco turnouts, but for the additional price, I personally don't see any difference. The peco are spring loaded, but I had to remove the springs when using them with Tortoise Switch Machines.

    My second layout

Wow, spaghetti jungle there John. Not much room left for structures, looks like one large storage area to me... I like room for scenry and structures, I think you gotta have "Places" for your trains to deliver to and pickup from.

    Favorite N Scale Manufacturer

Actually Dark curves, they are about 4-5 years old. It is the Minitrix stuff that is over 10-12 years old and they run great.

    Favorite N Scale Manufacturer

Actually Kevin, our club has the Bachmann Spectrum 2-8-0 N Scale. It is one of 15 locomotives in the roster. It is the best N Scale locomotive they have, runs smooth either slow or fast, pulls 20+ cars around the level layout. Also looks great doing it. The club has only 2 Katos and they...

    Favorite N Scale Manufacturer

Depends what you are rating... Track: Atlas DC Power supplies: MRC DCC Systems: MRC Passenger Cars: Athearn (only guys making cars circa 1890). Locomotives: I have 3 Bachmann 4-4-0 not the best 1 Model Power 4-4-0 good runner, pulls prototypically (3-4 cars) 1 Atlas Deisel...

MRC Prodigy Advanced With Computer Interface?

From my point of view, the only reason Digitrax has such a great reputation is that they were one of the first and the fact they used to give a deal to clubs. Don't know if they still offer the 30% off for clubs.

MRC Prodigy Advanced With Computer Interface?

I like the Prodigy Systems better than the others due to the large LCD screen that tells you what is going on.

    Finally The CVR goes public

Agreed Tetters, I too like the "throwing of the switches". I will be using the Osborn models working Switch Stands, for the manual throws on turnouts close to the front of the layout. I will be using Tortoise Switch Machines for the turnouts farther back. (Good thing is I sell both in my store :) ).

Here is a scenario I wish to try. On the prototype for my layout they operated both Passenger and Freight. I would like to position all switches so that a passenger train could navigate the loop on the layout and pass every station (there will be 7). Start the passenger train moving at the...

    DC fundamentalist

I think I will stick with DCC then... No Battleship sized control panel, just two small handheld remotes. one with each train number displayed. No mass of toggles to memorize and control, just toggles/switchstands for turnouts along the edge of the layout. I can move with my train around...

chaparral, have you ever tried DCC? Our club uses it and it is simply head and shoulders above DC. At home I wanted to run more than one train at once and I wanted to run trains, not orchestrate a layout through a control panel by throwing toggles for power and routing. My home layout...

    Finally The CVR goes public

Well, weekly progress report time. The benchwork is up, the back track is in from Orangeville around to Sligo Junction, just a small area left to do there... Still to do: the mainline from Boston Mills to Alton. Here are the 4 shots again: More to come next week...

Very prototypical if you ask me, you have to be Engineer on your train and watch where you are going, just another of the realistic things about DCC :)

    Layout woes

For DCC, our club suggests feeder wires every three feet, the bus wires must be thick, 12ga or 14ga wire. If you have a multi meter, test both the voltage and amperage at various points on your track and compare it with the readings on your programming track.

It is amazing at the wealth of mis-information that the non-DCC people hand out. Testing a DCC equipped locomotve in a cab controlled DC layout is Like buying a Lamborghini and driving it only in town and under 80km. Truly a waste and not a true test of the vehicle. I have a Prodigy...
