Repair split axles on Bachmann's N scale 4-8-4 locomotives.

Thanks Paul, Caboose Hobbies should have the correct size tubing. Either Red or blue Loc-Tite will work. I used thin Loc-Tite but thick should work as well. The gears on the locomotive shown in this thread have not failed yet. Happy modeling

Nice Shays Bill.:thumb: I like the large stacks. I went for a similar look with my second MDC shay. (maybe a bit more modernized though)

It's a little too quiet in here.

Why would anyone want to stop a thread that is generating such a flow of traffic and posts at this forum?

    My Oldest Loco

Hi David, The FA is an old John English loco. If it were a plastic shell it would be a Hobby Line. Lionel did buy the dies from these locos and used them (in modified form) to produce the shells for their FA loco.

Repair split axles on Bachmann's N scale 4-8-4 locomotives.

I do put the sleeve on as well as using the epoxy. It should keep the gear stable and from cracking further. When I put the sleeve over a gear with a crack that has gone into the teeth of the gear, I will put an alligator clip over the gear to make sure the crack stays closed until the...

Repair split axles on Bachmann's N scale 4-8-4 locomotives.

Hi Leon, The 0-6-0 locos are the same design, however the axle gears are smaller. The same procedure can be used to repair them. If the gear is split all the way to the teeth it will not mesh properly. even with the sleeve on the collar, the crack will open back up when the axle is pressed...

    AHM/Riverossi Wheelsets?

Hi Robert, I see why the sparks and burning smell occurred. One of the tender trucks is turned around and causing a short circuit. On the AHM Pacific, the tender should pick up power from only one rail. In the photo, the wheels with the metal disc that transfers power from the rims to...

    phoenix train show

Hi Don, With the price of gas and a thin modeling budget this year, I'm going to have to limit the number of shows we attend in Phoenix. We seem to enjoy the meets at Adobe Mountain more so I'm shooting for that one. Hope to see you all there.

    My SD9 rebuild

Hi Kevin, I used the Tyco cab method as Russ mentioned on an SD26 bash I am STILL working on. There are some photos in this thread. http://forum.zealot.com/t110728/ I chopped the high hood and fabricated the cab front on a Tyco C630. It worked out nice too.
