    N Scale Scratchbuilt DPM Interior

Great ideas especially the neon signs. I now thinking of a flickering light module for those Bate's motel signs.

How to illumunate an N scale building ?

I only use LEDs now since I don't have to worry about replacing burned out bulbs. I actually use SMD LEDs since they are small and almost the brightness of 1:160 scaled light bulbs and will last forever if you keep the current lower than recommended. I was even thinking of using batteries to...

Looking for help superdetailing N Models

If you paid about $20 for the entire set, those are toys that just share the size of N-scale. Re-motoring and detailing them would cost you more than pay for the real deal. You have to count on 4 - 5 hours if it even is possible with around $15 per hour charges. Check out on e-bay for some...

    Flea Market Loco

Sorry I could not remember the technical term anymore. According to the German web site I found, only 2 were manufactured (10 001 and 002). The covers not only should cut down on the air resistance but also keep the cylinders insulated and free of dirt. Since the time of steam engines came to...

    Flea Market Loco

The BR10 was build in 1957 for the German Railroad with oil burner and partial enclosure for high speed passenger trains. Although different manufacturers made this model, I assume it is a Rivarossi. If the engine still runs, $5 is a great deal.

    Just curious????

Some airplanes work okay since they are not very large as the real thing. I am working on the Boeing train with the fuselage on a flat car. The airplane is also 1:144 but I chose the 737-100/200 model with the shortes fuselage which makes up for difference in size.

Brown or black for wheels and/or couplers?

I just both the first pair of brown trucks and I don't like it at all. It just does not look like rusted trucks but brown colored shiny plastic. I use the brown couplers but will go back to black and rust colored powder to simulate wear and tear on the trucks.

    Roll by

Besides nice looking cars, the tracks are well ballasted, too. Just one comment about the B23-7. In the picture you can see the the see-through part of the decals (called silvering) that distracts from a nicely painted model. Did you use Micro-Sol after the decals were applied and dry? If not...

    Life Like body shells

The only GP models that would fit your time frame would be a GP7 or GP9. Even if you would stretch it, and would get a GP18 (introduced in 1959) you are out of luck since that model is the same size as a 7 or 9 and smaller than a GP38-2.

    Hows this look?

I like the color scheme. I agree with the others about yellow. I have been airbrushing a long time but still have problems with yellow. I found out, the more red the paint has, like the UP yellow, TTX, the easier it is. On your paint scheme, I would move the green/yellow separation more to...

Faller Gmbh structors - Black Forest

Old European architecture depends very much on the region. Just traveling one hour from the Black Forest, you will find a completely different style. Buildings before the 20th centurey depended on local resources like wood, granit or clay for brick. Romania is not different in that respect. You...

Can I change out the LED's

Don't unsolder the LED. Heat is really bad for a decoder board. Cut off the leads of the old LED as close as possible to the led. Attach small alligator clips to those leads so the act as heat sinks. Pre-solder the leads as well as the leads of your knew LED. Put the leads of the new LEDs on top...

    My first Kit Bash

Nicely done. I would add some balconies to the 3. and 4. floor or at least some railing since you don't want to deal with lawsuits from insured Preiser figures.

Kato has city street pieces that are perfect for Japanese layouts since the markings are on the other side.

    Internet Vendors

I use Feather River Train Shop since this web site advertises how many items are in stock. I just hate it when you order stuff online and you never receive it and a phone call turns out they cancel your order since they did not have anything you wanted.

My N scale Steel Mills final trackplan

Have you checked out Google Earth for a steel mill? I quickly put in US Steel Corporation in Ecorse, MI and got a great satellite picture. It seems the building are more clustered than on your layout plan. You might get more space in your yards for all the special cars if you move the buildings...
