Branson Scenic Railway - pics of a GREAT time!

Those are some great pics, Eddie! We've been on the Branson Scenic Railway twice. The second time was when Thomas the Tank Engine visited a few weeks ago. For anyone who hasn't gone, I wholeheartedly recommend it. The Ozarks are beautiful, and the ride is well worth it just for the scenery...

What's it really like in the U.S.?

The cost of living varies considerably here, depending on where you live. We lived in Austin, Texas for a while. The cost of living there is outrageous. If I made as much here in Huntsville, Texas as I did in Austin, we'd be living like kings. But we just scraped by in Austin. BTW, Texas...

What's it really like in the U.S.?

Wow. I'm totally envious of your weather, Fifer. (Happy Birthday, BTW.) Right this moment, at 12:31 p.m. on June 18th, 2004, it is 92 degrees and 46% humidity (which is sorta low for this time of day, I think). The heat index is 98 degrees. And it's not even officially summer yet. But, I'd...

What's it really like in the U.S.?

Bruce, This site might be of use: http://www.city-data.com/ Fifer...is that a typo or do you really only get about two weeks where the temp is over 100? I can deal with just two weeks of 100+ and low humidity!

    2-8-2 Light Mikado

Carl, We took 65 south out of Branson, MO to 412 in northern Arkansas. Then 412 to 59 near Siloam Springs, got onto 259 and took that all the way into Texas. We usually take I-44 out of Missouri (my mom actually lives in Ava, but we met her in Branson this time) to 69, then stay on 75 to...

    2-8-2 Light Mikado

The cab was blocked off, but I was able to stick my camera up there and get this shot:

    2-8-2 Light Mikado

As we were driving home from Missouri this week, we saw this 2-8-2 light Mikado on display in a small park in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. It was built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in May 1927 (builder's #60006), and was originally owned by the Dierks Lumber & Coal Company.

Thomas is, of course, just a mock-up. Here's the real motive power. This is an EMD F9PH, built in 1951:

We sat in a dome car right behind Thomas. This is a view of the track ahead on the way back to the station. Thomas is out of view over the edge of the car.

    Branson Scenic Railway

We went to visit my mom in Missouri this past week. While we were there, we took my son to ride Thomas the Tank Engine on the Branson Scenic Railway. Below are some pics! This is Thomas at the station.

    Old Danish steamer.

It's funny that you mention that. When my six year old son saw the pics, he said it looked like Oliver.

    My Hometown

Neat post card. I wonder if you could get a picture of the station as it is today so we could see a side-by-side comparison. Of course, I wouldn't expect to see a train pulled by a steam engine... :)

Very interesting pictures! Thanks for sharing! I'm particularly intrigued by the Montpelier station. Looks like a nice place to visit.

Those are some great pictures! I love seeing those old engines. They really gave them character in those days.

    Copper Ridge Railway (version 2.0)

I can run trains now! :):):) I finished the wiring (all 6 blocks of it:D) and everything ran perfectly the first time 'round. I still have some tunnel clearance issues, though, but I'll deal with those later. Here is a pic of the layout with the track in place. I put the control panel...
