    Greetings from Australia

So I stick my nose in after a few years and see quite a few names I still recognise.:wave: I'll have a bit of a snoop and see what's been happenin'. :thumb:

    fiber optics

Jaijef, I see you've not had much luck with a response. I've put LEDs and fibre optics into about 15 of my locos. I run DCC. For both headlights and marker lights. You cannot use the exisitng "globe". Any brand of LED will do. You'll need to find a fibre optic supplier in the US...

    Help Getting Started with NCE

Lon, I run the NCE Pro Cab and have no problems. It's very simple to wire up. Just follow the instructions. I'd give you a hand but I'm not really near your part of the world. Next time you're down in the basement, start digging. Keep going right through the Earth's core, and you'll come...

    Get what you pay for?

Just a reminder, Chessie, that as your empire grows, the cost of the all the locos and decoders themselves together, will outweigh the intial amount spent on the basic system. Sorta like a DVD player. The player itself can cost you so much, but how much will you pay for the DVDs themselves...

    DCC and Personal Computers

I use JMRI with my NCE system. You can download it from the link in RailwayBob's post. It is free. It does everything I need at this stage and supports all the decoders I use. (NCE, Lenz, Soundtraxx and Loksound). i.e. place your loco in the programming track and click "ident", and it will...

    Clean wheels and track

One thing I also found, is that (well NCE D13SR decoders anyway, using NCE Pro DCC system) will not READ CVs on the programming track unless there is a load across the grey/orange wires. i.e. the motor is connected. Tried to reset a few decoders that i'd uninstalled (replaced with Sountraxx...

    Digitrax DH121 decoder question?

Did you reset CV8 to 08 on the programming track? CV 8 contains the "manufacturer's ID", however setting it to "08" resets ALL CVs back to their factory defaults. Some decoders you need to "recycle power" (i.e.lift it off the track, and put it back on again, or turn your system off etc)...

    Help for a newbie

The only thing I can think of, is to check that you have plugged it onto the loco the right way round. Ensure pin 1 is into socket 1 on the locomotive board. You may need a magnifying glass to check. The pin numbers should be printed in white little tiny numbers on the plug, and on the board...

    Digitrax DH121 decoder question?

Steve, Your decoder should NOT function like that, straight "out of the box" and installed, if you have not changed any settings, and wired it up correctly. Are you saying that the slightest bit of throttle, and it immediately jumps to top speed? Does it go any faster at all as you increase...

    Dcc Question

OK. So it might be better for us to repeat the question in our own words, and see if that is what you mean. Are you asking how to set your DCC locos, to all have the same top speed? Also, that when you set the throttle to, say, half speed, then all you locos will go at the same "half"...

    Dcc Question

I note that Bob has "bumped" this thread from May 2005. Bob, a question for you? Is English your first language? Your questions and requests don't really make much sense.

    Soundtraxx and LEDs

You're a marvel, Bill :thumb: :thumb: I trust this is what you are referring to? http://www.tonystrains.com/technews/soundtraxx-lcleds.htm Just what the doctor ordered. :D Many thanks.

    Soundtraxx and LEDs

Thanks Cid. What I might do, is hook up some LEDs temporarily (i.e. with the loco case off, etc) and see what sort of "faint glow" they are refering too. I suppose if doing this would damage the decoder, they would actually say so on the packet..... You hope they would, anyway.

    Soundtraxx and LEDs

Hi Guys, Soundtraxx DSD-101LC decoder. It says on the packet, LED use(for lights) is not recommended, as they "may glow faintly when the function is turned off". (using a dropping resistor of course, as if it were for a 1.5V lamp, as the light functions are 12 - 16V). Anyone know if...

    Interiior building lighting

Eddie, I'm not sure for O scale, what size, or voltage globes would be best, but I made the mistake (HO scale), in the first few buildings I did, of not positioning the globe properly. Don't just drill a hole in the floor and poke the globe through. The light beams through the windows goes...

    Loksound technical stuff

Thanks for that guys. And no, the locos I am putting them in are local Australian models. Not your standard Bbachman SD40 or Athearn etc. The motors in them are very good quality. I do not have the Loksound programmer, however I'm using JMRI software (which has these decoders...

    Peco Turnout Shorting

Tom, I suppose you've already worked out that you are getting a short. Is your rollingstock quite old? i,e, have quite wide wheels, and deep flanges compared to the newer rollingstock? If you have fixed your track down, and ballasted etc, there is probalby not much you can do. However...

    Loksound technical stuff

G'day guys. Ain't heard from me for a while, but I'm still kickin'. :):)  Got some questions on Loksound, if anyone can help. I've got 2 Loksound V 3.5 decoders turning up via phone order next week. I've down loaded the manuals, and have read up on them. It's the back EMF...
