The Battle of Waterloo: Meierhof La Haye Sainte near Waterloo and is located on the road to Waterloo. The fighting on the site of the Meierhof La Haye Sainte was part of the decisive battle against Napoleon on June 18, 1815.
The painting in the background was commissioned in 1858 by George V, the last Hanoverian king. It was painted by Adolph Northen (1828-1876).
