Well, after going through a small little rut with merely screwing around with paper toy designs, I think I'm just about ready to get back into full gear. To ease myself back into the old routine, I'm starting with a somewhat-minimal design based on commemorative Sputnik presentation models given out to those who worked on the team.

So far, I really only have Sputnik itself done; I've yet to work on the base:

I would like to see this built. I have trouble with petals (I'm sure that's not the right term) I tend to go for conical rings, but they really depend on the builder too, though I think both can be made into compound shapes. Very cool! :)

Yep, I usually try to avoid petals when I can, but for something this small, the truncated cones would've been too cumbersome to work with :mrgreen:

Oh, and I just realized that I accidentally put this post in the Sci-fi section of the site...maybe y'all can move it?
 
I really like the stand concept. You could almost stick anything spherical on there, attached the 4 "whatever they are's", and end up with a great model! Nice job! :)
