Just some doubts:
1 - is it possible to build your dragon without expanding foam or any other kind of inner hardening fill?
2 - is it possible to build it without an inner support structure?

It is possible! I've done it on my original dragon (ok it had the few internal parts that is in the pdo) but It couldn't support its own weight and its legs and wings started to sag after a few months, making the whole dragon tilt more and more forward.

The legs can be made more stable with some internal cross braces I've actually made but didn't use (and promptly forgot to include in the new file I've uploaded T_T). I've used similar braces in my Tyranid Swarmlord and I couldn't detect any sag in its leg so far
As for the wings, they would probably need some internal bracing either foam or wire/wood. I've never learned structural engineering so my opinion is just a guess you understand.

Well there goes the timetable for my next project. :curse:

Looks like I'll have to behead, dismember and disembowel my dragon. and rebuild about half of it ... the more complex half. :cry:

Here's what happened. Since I've wanted the best quality I've used 3 kinds of paper, the legs tail and wings are on 180gsm Verbatim paper. which is great so far.

The torso is mixed 210gsm and 160 gsm, the rock is 210gsm and the head is 160gsm ezPrint photo paper (the only brand I could get that is matte and 160gsm).

I've never used photo paper before so I've built a small paper model from them before starting with the dragon. Now there was no major issue with it so I went ahead and built the dragon and a few other models for my friends/co-workers then all of the sudden all the things I've printed on the ezPrint papers got pink, even the dragon and the small paper-test model which are spray-coated with a fixative that is supposed to protect it from humidity and UV-rays. So half of my Mk2 dragon is a stylish purple /blue/pink mix, the rest remained the cool ice-blue that you can see on the pictures.

Looks like I just can't have a cool looking Frost Dragon at home.

I wanted to build some new Mass Effect models namely (Wrex, Nihlus or Xenonray's ME3 Tali) but looks like I'll spend the papercraft allocated portion of my holiday sawing my Mk2 apart and rebuilding the whole thing on verbatim paper.

It will be the 4th dragon head I'll be making and I'm getting mighty sick of building it. But if I wall1 long enough even a wall will break (or my skull but I will make a new one out of paper :cool:)!

daishi, that's terrible news! I've never heard that colours were able to change or fade so fast. I use an HP officejet and simple 160 g matte paper (not a special brand or so) for my builds. Once a build is complete I put it in a crate to preserve it from sunlight and dust. So far everything is still fine, the colours still look very good, even on the Gemini freighter which is about four years old. I really can't explain why this has happened to you. Maybe it was not the paper alone which caused the problems, maybe it was the combination of the paper and the ink / colour you used.

As RB said, there has to have been a reaction between the chemicals in the paper and those in the ink. Judging by what you are describing, it seems the colours are becoming bleached. Bleach type agents are used to whiten the paper pulp. If these bleaches are not 'leached' properly before the paper is pressed, maybe the remnants continue their job......!

But, apart from destroying what you have already built, why not use it instead......:twisted: A friend of mine has shown some interest in my build........... Hint
 
Yeah I figured its some incompatibility with my ink and the cheap paper, but still every sheet should BURN

I didn't want to destroy it. Just saw off the parts that are on verbatim paper and use them during the rebuild. that leaves the head and neck, the torso, and the rock to rebuild.
I have a nice gold paint I was itching to try out I'll try to make a dragon bust maybe.
