R2-D2 from Metal Earth... a card model made by steel!

I have been gifted quite a few of these and the exposure of the tabs bothers me. They really do come out nice, and you did a fantastic job. Since the parts are made from steel, I think most people would pay a little extra to have the parts with compound curves stamped out though, and gain the benefits of a steel model. Why make it out of steel if it has no compound curves, comes unpainted?

I think it is neat, but if that was painted, and had a smooth dome, that would be awesome. Even unpainted, but with stamped accurate parts would be fantastic. It is neat though. I have around 6 of these models and there is something about them that bothers me and I can't put my finger on it. Maybe it is because it is a representation in a medium that could give you so much more?

I'm ordering the Millennium falcon to build for my son. He recently got into Star Wars. It looks like fun building these, and I think I know what Zathros is saying. It's an intricate build, but lacks in sleekness of a card model. It appears very crude.
I guess I'll find out, though.

That does look great, Tonino. The metal foil certainly gives it a solid look. I've seen the Metal Earth line before, but they seem to have added a lot since then. I've got to try one sometime.

They do come out nice. I have a machine capable of cutting these, it's just such a pain in the butt to program, but the machine does paper of thing metal. They do really come out great, especially as decorations. They are a different genre, and by no means did I intend to knock them. It's so hard for me to make models at this point, I only will attempt that which "knocks my socks off", and even my own models aren't doing that.

I think I understand what you mean @zathros and @Neon Neuron talking about the feelings this kind of object gives you. I agree that is not definitely a Model (with the capital letter) but more like a toy (a complex one, but a toy). It's something who assure you some hours of fun (not many in this case, but this can be positive) and leaves you a nice miniature you can put on the shelf (it's tiny, don't take much room). If you want an accurate model obviously you switch to other things. It's, as ever, a matter of "what are you looking for..."

I think I'll buy some other of these (I'd like to try the lunar module, seems nice) but my BIG projects are still awaiting for the moment I will have the time to afford them (I'll talk of those projects if you like). In the meantime I would like to turn back to paper and try my first UHU02... I'ts a lot of time since I'm thinking of it... I should decide where to start from... mmm...

You like a challenge Tonino! UHU02's Black Pearl is nice, but tricky, if you try it, (from my experience) you have to build both sides of the hull simultaniously, else it "pulls" to the one side

His 3PO is a nice build though, has some nice technical bits, but also some straight forward "cut & paste" parts.
