Problems posting pictures

With my last two posts, when I attached pictures, they didn't display as thumbnails, but as generic white-lined paper thumbnails. What am I doing wrong?

Click on the Upload a File button, then click on the folder that the image is in, then click on the image. After that, click on the Thumbnail button. The image should come up as a thumbnail with no problems.
