I have a vague idea of what placards are, but I really don't have a clue as to their usage. What exactly was (is) their purpose and are they still in use today? If not, when were they phased out? This question came to me while reading an article by Lionel Strang in the July MRR.

Yes Willie, they are used more than ever to provide emergency worker an idea what is in a load for their's and the communitie's saftey during and emergecy situation.
