Painting plastic to look like wood?

It's your friendly neighborhood newbie again...

My N scale Interstate Fuel & Oil structure has a wood loading dock, and I'm not sure how to make the plastic look like wood. Does anyone have suggestions as far as colors, and/or technique?

Since we all like pictures, those would be appreciated too!

Pretty good job of making styrene look like wood. I do a lot of scratch/bash work, and that bit of knowledge will surely come in handy.

That little guy is lying on his back...Thought he'd take a crack at that ol' lumber for some firewood...and it was PLASTIC...!!! Too much to take...
