Painting plastic to look like wood?

It's your friendly neighborhood newbie again...

My N scale Interstate Fuel & Oil structure has a wood loading dock, and I'm not sure how to make the plastic look like wood. Does anyone have suggestions as far as colors, and/or technique?

Since we all like pictures, those would be appreciated too!

OK Harold...!!!

You managed to make that plastic look more like aged wood than aged wood...!!! And I thought I had a done pretty good on my lumber yard...:cry:
 
Very impressed, Harold! I like how you got inventive with materials to weather with. I may have to try this on something!
 
Pretty good job of making styrene look like wood. I do a lot of scratch/bash work, and that bit of knowledge will surely come in handy.
