A while back I did this concept illo to try to sell a toy company on a design idea for their RC spider mecha battle toys. I called it the Tarantula and based it on military designs (ablative plating, gear racks, etc.) the panels on the legs were supposed to "explode" when hit with a dart or other object. They rejected the design (didn't even respond, actually) and went with "Combat Creatures." You can google it for the production model. Anyway, here's my concept art...all Photoshop.
