Modular sci fi vehicles - first project in several years.

Hi All,

I have just joined, having had a long break from making card models. So I have a project started, it started as a generic Sci Fi transport, but quickly expanded.

As background I play Xenos Rampant at my local wargames club. We have a mixture of styles, but a lot of old school 40K, so I will start with a retro scifi shape (70s Buck Rogers/Remco toys), but the first etxture will be applique armour and rivets for a 40K vibe.

Be warned, I am a very messy Cad user, I will have a lot of related drawings on one file and then create cleaned up versions for printing.

Anyway, here is an early picture to give you an idea:

If this style is what you mean by "modular', well there are a lot of people who like that technique. They are easy to make, and very, extremely customizable, or as we say, easy to "greeble'.

Greeble sounds interesting - I imagine it is adding depth and detail, but please correct me if I am wrong.

Some slow progress - here is a screenshot of the first draft of the transport. two sheets of two cargo hulls each (2 plain, one imperial and one genestealer) and a sheet with the chassis. I will print one of a trial tomorrow.

"Greeblies" are often random bits of unrelated models attached to a new, larger model to add interest. Look at photos of any of the original "Star Wars" shooting models, and you'll see things like oil pans from model car kits.

Yes - that would work well.

In the case of paper/cardstock model building, "GREEBLING" can also mean taking printed texture and turn it into physical texture by raising or recessing said texure to obtain to look that the builder is attempting to achieve.
