Modeling Interurban Railways

:thumb: Chris I tell you the more I see these types of railways the more it reminds me of my very young life in Belgium and taking the tram as we called them to the market and just about everywhere else. Maybe next time you'll make a convert out of me ??
Darn, Chris. I've got so much time and money and emotion invested in 1880's steam modeling, that I keep trying to resist traction. You do not make it any easier!

Bill you should have streached the time frame from 1880 to 1902.Then you would have all the more reason to build that early Traction line.
It is only 20 years diff :thumb:
Yeah, but by 1902 steam locos had become big, black, complex, dirty monsters --- not the clean, dainty, simple little jewels they had been! (And wood smoke smelled a whole bunch nicer than coal or oil!)

Chris, thank you for the article - finally I understand the difference between interurbans and city 'trams'.
Here in Switzerland 'Trams' are common in almost every bigger city. Apart from that we have true interurban lines, too. But traditionally they all are narrow gauge - meter gauge, to be exact.
The interurbans also transported freight and occasionally still do. They didn't have freight cars, instead they transported standard freight cars on special trucks.

Boy o Boy those pictures are great, every where looks so clean.
Always loved your electric stuff. you lead the world I think in keeping this clean transport in use.
My home town had Trams for many years (Manchester) they were all gone
when I was born They had the trolly busses.
I worked out of one of the oldest Tram garage for 15years. From 1966/1980 First on the trollys and then the oiler bus.
But in Canada and the USA they call them Streetcars for the city streets.
I operated them for 10 years, and that is something else
I Love em.
But it is stressful when you operate them in traffic all the time.
