Model Of The Month: "Inspired" Deep Space Exploration Vessel

awhile back, I had started messing around with Google Sketchup 8, and started designing a "Deep Space Exploration Vessel". I have been sharing pics of the design as it has evolved on another Forum, but would like to share with you all. Any ideas, insight, critism (good and Bad) is completely welcome.

I do apologize for the amount of pictures, but I HAVE been working on this for a few weeks, and would like to get you guys caught up properly :) enjoy

Hey Rick!! Nice to see you bring this work of art here! It will be a pleasure to see this come along. To any other members who might not know, this is Rick's creation, an original work. A pleasure to watch. I hope you post all the directions you explore with this. It has been fun watching the different paths you have been exploring with her, (Inspired, sounds like a "her" to me). :):thumb:

So this is where I stand right now on the design. I plunk away here and there, and as you can see, the ship has evolved alot from its initial concept. You may have noticed that I'll go along a partiular path, then abruptly erase and redo a section. this is nothing more than the sporadic undecided mind of an Irishman without his little Dragonfly to sooth him.

Like I said, any thoughts, ideas, likes, dislikes, critism, good and bad. all is welcome. Now that i've gotten you all caught up, i'll be posting updated pics of the design as I continue my work. :)
 
Awhile back when I first started this design, I had watched Starship Troopers, Event Horizon, and 2001 back to back. After my movie marathon, I sat down and started designing in Google Sketchup. After about 5 or 6 Hours (not all at once) I came up with this. obviously influenced by all three movies with a bit of Thunderbirds tribute thrown in. I hadn't even though of the Cygnus until about a week after starting, But there is a bit of that ship in there also :)

I think it is cool when people share their inspiration for design. I think George Lucas believes he invented everything in Star Wars.!!

She's looking cool too. I like the idea that the ship could land. Which means some ancillary vehicles? :)
