After a long hiatus Julius Perdana is back with a new project: A giant RC Boeing 747-400 - with a 4m wingspan!

He divided the build in four parts. Part 1 is already available here. He is going to put up a build video on each section. The first one can be watched here:

I really like this video because it finally gives us the opportunity to hear and actually see the man in action who gave us all these fantastic paper models on his site for free. To be honest, I was a bit worrying about not seeing any updates on his site for so long. His models have taught me A LOT of making stable and working joints and creating complex shapes in an easy and buildable way. I'm glad he is well and has not given up (paper) modeling.

Go for it, Julius! :)

It's going to be anR/C plane on top of it, awesome!! You have to get a special liscense to fly something like that in the U.S., unless you're in the middle of nowhere, and hop the FAA doesn't see it on Radar! :)

Indeed! Here in Germany it is the same. These are seen as "small airplane" and need a special flight permit.

A truly great feat, the last large scale 747 RC that I saw, ended it's maiden flight in a pile of burning rubble. 3 meter wingspan and 2 turbojets, one flamed out on approach, and it augured in and the fuel tank leaked, hot turbine and kerosene create fire...

Just don't fly it near any airports!

And this one will be even bigger! :)

NICE! He does good work. I've downloaded a few of his models, and will do them when I get my skills up a little more.
The way he designs complex curves and secure connections is exemplary. Without him Crichton would not have been articulated and the Landram would not have featured these little "horns" on the front roof. And tackling the Turbobike would never have even come to my mind. :)

When is the Turbobike coming out?

Zoning has become so tight in Connecticut, I could never build that barn again. It's now 2 acre zoning where I live, just to build a house!! I only own 6/10ths of an acre (an old lake community), but what makes my land valuable is that it is completely flat, a rarity in Connecticut. I know people with 5 acres of land and with only a half acre of it usable, on steep hills, or with dead river back yards where glaciers 10's of thousands of years ago pushed house size boulders, and are partly swamps now, so they cannot be disturbed. Never buy a home next to a swamp, the Jurisdiction falls to the Army Corps of Engineers.

Julius's plane needs a hanger!! :)

There's a guy in Connecticut who built a Fletcher Classs Destroyer he could sit in, and go out on the lake, powered with DC motors. It was the size of a large Canoe. He got in trouble as he installed Carbide Cannons, and they give out quite a boom. Scared a lot of people. That was many years ago. I think he got banned from the 18 mile long lake. It really looked the part. I guess the way people are running scared these days, they didn't se the fun in it. I would have had . 22LR in the 5" guns. Now that would be neat to watch some target practice. ;)
