HO lionel 0646 SP Smoker with Whistle questions ??

Hi ALL!
I just got a hold of one of these HO lionel 0646 SP's. It does run. OK...stupid question it runs on DC , right? It is supposed to smoke I have Liquid Smoke hanging around, will that work? I got the Whistle to spool up on the Tender, it doesn't sound very whistle-y? I don't have instructions, love to take this apart and tune it up. Maybe the smoke and whistle don't run right because of lack of power? How much DC (?) power does it need? How does the Whistle get triggered?

Tedtrain,
You must have a very early model. I looked at the catalog and instruction sheet for your loco on this website and the earliest catalogs, dated 1958 and later, have no mention of 'smoke' and 'whistle.' Makes you wonder why they chose to eliminate these features in later years, doesn't it?

I know this is 2018 7 years after the last post. Lionel 's 46 series pacifics all had a whistle in the tender. The engine runs on DC. The whistle works on AC.
