Hi Dave,
If you haven't seen it, check out "The Box" under General Talk. I think it's a pretty cool idea. If I ever get a flatcar rollin', I'll have a Box on it.

Hey Cid - Why a flat car? How about a hot pink "The Box", partially buried in the ground, with a crowd looking at it and scratching their heads?

I'm still working(?) on my table, so my 1st priority is to get something (anything) rolling. Then I can start with The Box.
I think my first structure will be Gauge Ind., which manufactures
Boxes. It's a challenge just making any kind of progress on the layout, what with the cats peeing on the scenery and all.
Anyone--did the American 4-4-0 really date back to 1848? How far into the 20th century was it still used?

Cid - I don't follow sprint cars too much (NASCAR, F1, CART mostly) but have heard of him, due to osmosis probably.
American 4-4-0 (well Canadian, anyway)

Canadian Pacific was using 3 4-4-0 s in New Brunswick until the late 50's. Reason was they had a light bridge on a branchline and keeping the small locomotives going was cheaper than a new bridge.
At least one is still running (144); another (29) was ruined in a major fire on a preserved line.
