Watched the movie "Emperor of the North" ( Lee Marvin & Ernest Borgnine ) this morning on TV; a story about a hobo who rides a freight train during the depression. There is a marvelous shot of the train at the very beginning of the movie. Talk about black smoke just for effect! It looked like a 2-8-2 locomotive but I am not sure. Maybe someone can tell me more about that steam engine. And does anybody know where the name "hobo" came from?
 
That is my all time favorite railroad movie..I simply love the song "A Man and a Train..
Yes..That is indeed a small drivered 2-8-0 as far as I can tell..
