Distance between mainline tracks?

I read somewhere a long time ago that I should use 1 1/4 inch from center to center and I also use it on wide curves. I like the look of it even though it may be over standard a bit.

You have to...

...read the whole thing.

Top of ther first page says, "These Clearances and Track Centers provide for Interchange and satisfactory operation of interurban and street railway equipment only."

There are 2 other standards linked off the reference page, S-7 & S-8.

Ooops...

You shoudl be looking at S-8 as per Mark's message -

Sorry for the confusion. (I don't have to read the whole thing... just the title ;) duh...)

It sort of depends! (like a lot of things)

On my layout I usually use 1.25".... In staging yards I use 1.5" becuase I can get my fingers in there better and when I want a congested look, I use 1".

My main yard is just a hair over 1" spacing and it has no problems even on the tighest curves with the longest passanger cars.
