The Countess of Dufferin was Western Canada's first steam locomotive. Brought over by barge from Minnesota to Winnipeg, the locomotive was named along the way by Canada's Governor General, Lord Dufferin's wife as the Countess of Dufferin!
This locomotive helped connect Western Canada to Eastern Canada, and only after the promise of having a railroad connect them to the rest of the country, British Columbia joined the Canadian Confederation!
The locomotive is a 4-4-0.
