So after my attempt at Ninjatoes's Enterprise-D (https://www.zealot.com/threads/uss-enterprise-ncc-1701-d-by-ninjatoes.182499/), I decided to work on a more angular and straight tabbed model.

My wife and I love Stargate SG-1, so I went searching for models of the ships. Her favourite is Prometheus & mine are the Daedalus-class. I found Jaybats designs and decided to tackle it but there were some issues.

I had problems with the lack of of tabs for attaching parts together. Yes there are tabs for folding the pieces from 2D to 3D. I had to get creative.

I made L-brackets to act as tabs to attached the nacelles (above) to the main body. But this was after the folding gluing.

With the Engine Section Bottom I cut out tabs so I could attach it to the top engine/hull section.

After all of the this the final model came out better than i had hope and made now want to tackle more complex builds but also made me think about what if I want to start designing my own models.

If you want to design recommend that you build a few more models to see different building styles. Every designer has different ways of doing things. Also, each designer or builder sees different ways of improving designs. This is what makes card stock model building fun while being certainly cheaper than 3D printing. Looking forward to seeing what else you build or design.

You did a GREAT JOB on this project! I like your assessment of it.
If you are wanting to get into designing models, I would suggest talking to either @Revell-Fan, @mijob, or @goodduck. All three of these members are top notch designers (Granted, there are many other great designers. However, these three came to mind firest).

Rhaven - don't forget yourself in this menagerie. Your work on the Thunderfighter and some redesigns are the preeminent work on anything Buck Rodgers related. My two cents..

CallousedRock - Also if you get praise and advice from Zathros take it to heart as he's got lots of experience as an actual engineer. Another person to watch is Jan Rukr otherwise known as Alien99. Here's a website of some of his items https://www.alienspapercraft.com/zavodnici_-_racers.html . These are great quick builds that show you what can be done with cardstock yet are surprisingly complex for a one page build. He's also the guy that painted the Alien Tiger Mi 35 Hind
.

Another person to watch is mikezax. He does a lot of models with paper gears known as karakuri in Japan. There are some other great builders out there all with different, but effective techniques. Mijob is known for his work on Tie Fighters and other Star Wars ships. Revell Fan is known for his work on anything Galactica related as well as other projects and has designed and built a whole bunch of models over the years.

The more you model and show off your modelling skills (warts and all) on this site the more you and others out there will learn and create joy for others while also finding solutions to sticky problems.

Too right you are! All of those that you have mentioned are indeed FANTASTIC DESIGNERS! All have their own talents and technioques (and secrets) in designing the magnificent templates that they produce.

My suggestion to anyone who is looking at getting into designing, either find a designer that you like and talk to them about helping you or research everyones style and strikeout on your own and create your own style (by using what all you have learned from everyone else).

Thank you for the kind words. However, I am far from a designer. I am just a builder (and beta test builder). I have to admit that the Thunder Fighter was the very first template that I had ever built. Needless to say, It was quite the learning process. The very first time that I had built a Thunder Fighter, it turned out to be a "dog's dinner". It took me awhile to learn what I was doing wrong and make the proper corrections in order to make the Thunder Fighters that I do now.
