Anyone have a Atlas VO-1000?
I just got one, was waiting to get a new decoder for it, but I thought that I would run it on DC today to see how it would perform.
WOW!!! The noise this thing makes is unbelievable.:cry:
Just wondering if the is normal or if I have a bad unit.
I have not installed the handrails yet, as I think it is going back where it came from.

I have an Atlas VO-1000. Though I have not run it for some years now (because I switched to HO), as far as I can remember, it did not make more noise than my Atlas GP40 or GP7.
 
I have had an Atlas VO-1000 for about 5 months. Mine came DCC equipped with a decoder. Mine has a very low noise level, and is a nice running little switcher.
 
The unit I have was going to get a DCC decoder. I always test run any locomotives before I install DCC. I like to know how well they operate on DC before I make the converson.
The noise on this unit has me rethinking the DCC install.
I don't think that I have ever heard a locomotive make this loud of noise. It makes noise even with the shell removed, and more when it is on.
I think that the unit is defective. :curse:
I have more than one Atlas (GP35s-GP40s-GP7s) unit and they are all are very quite. Some you have to look to find the locomotive on the layout as you can't hear them.
 
Is it as noisy as that GP-7 of mine you were working on? I hope you did not buy it from your place of employment... no returns, no refunds!!! :mrgreen::mrgreen::mrgreen:

This one makes the GP-7 sound like a quiet mouse in a church.sign1
And no I got it somewhere else. I just hope they make good on this one, as is very bad.
