So, I started the Aries 1-B by UHU02 (many thanks UHU02!) It's a challenge for sure and a fantastic model. I was a bit overwhelmed when studying the instructions but I'm just going one step at a time. I told my wife it would take me 2 months because I am just working on it for a few minutes at night after the kids go to bed, but it is going lots faster and I hope to have it done by the end of the month! It's definitely got some problems but overall I am quite pleased with how it's turning out. Any feedback would be very welcome.

If you can get these parts to work, you can do anything!

looking good so far! I to have made this outstanding model. and it is well worth the time and effort. keep up the good work.

You are doing an outstanding job so far.:thumb:

This is one of my future projects too. I plan to collect and build every paper model of the spacecraft from 2001. I have just got to finish to the Discovery first, before I start this one, or any other!!

Keep up the good work.
I will be following this closely!

You sir, are my new Hero! Excellent!! You have done very well, in little time.

I tried the 'only a few minutes a night' arguement, but for some reason I didn't get away with it. Mainly because the time always stretched a bit.
Your progress so far is great.

Keep up the good work :thumb:

I took these photos at a Nitrogen Plant by my work. I always thought this looked like the Aries 1-B and the space pod!

We had a similar structure and it was huge and intact, but the comp[any was no longer there. The darn town didn't even take bids. A lot of people wanted to section it and use it for either am amphitheater, or for some other architectural endeavor. This one did not hold anything caustic. :)

the legs.....

thankfully there are only 4 of these:eek:

I would just play with that whole assembly till I broke it! Incredible workmanship. I admire your skills. I am tempted to do this landing gear in aluminum flashing and using a two part metal epoxy as glue, so I can make something more durable for me efforts, if/when I attempt this model.

Superb! :)

Kudos on that amazing landing leg assembly, I might just 'wuss out' and do the model here using Lego bits and Plastruct for the so-delicate looking paper pieces my man-paws would simply destroy.

That said, I think the Aries 1-B influenced a generation of SF and gaming fans, the 800 ton Broadsword mercenary cruiser was likely inspired by such, as well as a few of the dropships in the various incarnations of Battletech/MechWarrior.
