A Question for all Santa Fe fans

This has nothing to do with railroads at all, but can someone tell me the story behind the "Santa Fe Stairs" which defy the laws of gravity? Tried to find out about it, but nobody seems to have even heard of them.

Shamus and Cid, You guys are not going to believe this but when I was a child in elementary school the school's liabrary teacher was named MISS LORETTO (not Loretta) CHAPEL I wonder if there is a connection but will never know 'cause she's been dead for at least 40 years.

I swear on my brass K27 that this is true!!!!!
