    industry at lower level

I remember reading a thread about how to ramp down to an industry from the main line. most answers were about sanding foam, cork etc to change the elevation of the track. I have just installed a track to an industry and the incline was the easiest I have ever done. I fixed the rail at each end...

    locating a short circuit

have just spent 3 days locating a short. my layout started small and has grown over the years to what would now be classed as medium to large. 2 levels area about 20 x 10 with a 10 x 10 transition area. as I operate alone I didn`t worry about isolating sections [ blocking ] because if a train...

as mentioned by EZ days in a recent post ,not everyone knows the meaning of some of the acronyms used when posting. perhaps a list of acronyms [ACS,ACN,ACM ??]would be helpful for those like me who can`t always work out what is meant. OTOH ??? sorry Fred , couldn`t work that one out.

    2 loco switching

when 2 locos are used when switching how easy is it to seperate them to switch individually ? is it simply a matter of uncoupling ? obviously there must be 2 crews which brings up another question. do the 2 crews communicate with radio or what other method is used ? i have just read about...

    wheel plating

I have on old kato RS11 which am starting to have problems with. it appears that the plating on the wheels has almost worn off and operation is fairly erratic - a lot of light flickering and constant stopping on areas of track that other locos have no problems with. the wiring has checked...

    radio DCC

have been thinking about getting a radio throttle for my layout -- in the future ,can`t afford it at the moment! however when a normal radio is on in the trainroom there is a lot of interference when a train is operated. this radio is battery operated and not connected in any way to the house...
