    A Varney 4-6-0

This is a Varney Casey Jones I am rebuilding. I've added a can motor, regeared it and added extra electrical pickups. That was going to be the extent of the modifications (besides painting it) until I saw a photo of South Simcoe's #1057. I noticed it was similar to the Varney model and had a...

Vintage remotor kit for Athearn Hi-F F7.

I picked up this Pitman remotor kit for the Athearn belt drive F7s at a show for $2. It runs rather well for a locomotive of that era. The belts are also of the same era. Sold by a company named Perfect.

    A few Train show deals.

Had a great time at the show today. I spent most of the day talking to people and overseeing the operation of the N scale layouts. We had the club's modular layout and the N scale layout my son and I built operating. We let the younger guests run the layout we brought, it was nice to see them...

    HOn30 tank loco

Here are a few construction photos of the HOn30 tank loco I'm bashing from brass on a Bachmann Dockside chassis. The chassis was stripped down to basically just the frame rails. The axle bearing slots were enlarged so brass bushings could be installed and a larger motor installed.

The Arizona wild fire season is here.

The Arizona wild fire season is here. Although not the worst fire burning in the state, this one (the Green fire) near Prescott is to close for comfort. The first photo was taken at 1:30 and the second 45 minutes later. Fortunately minutes after I took the second photo, the slurry planes...

    Kit-bashed SD26

I bought a Kit-bashed SD26 from a friend intending to only use the trucks for one of the SD38s I am building. After looking at photos of SD26s and finding an article in the Aug. 2001 MR on bashing an SD26, I decided to rebuild the loco. I realized I could put the shell on an Atlas SD35 chassis...

    The SD38 projects.

I recently got the chassis parts gathered for the 2 RPP SD38 shells I had. Athearn SD45 frames and SD6 trucks are used. The frames needed to be milled to fit the shells. The rear frame bolster had to be narrowed and some of the raised lip on the top of the frame removed. Some of the...

    B&O #5205

This is an old Model Power Pacific I got in a box lot. Mechanically, it got KD couplers, regeared, a new motor and tender pickups. Cosmetically, the tender got a scratch-built backup light, repainted and lettered. The locomotive was renumbered, the bell was moved from the smoke box to behind...
