    Cookie Cutter Method

You can use the cookie-cutter method on 1/2" foam too. Stick to the blue foam for risers too.

    Atlas remote switches (ho)

You might check the rear truck to make sure it's true to gauge.

    Rail feeders - Bus connection

The 14/18 AWG "tap-in" connectors will take wire smaller than 18AWG if you just double the wire back on itself before inserting it into the connector. Do you need 12 AWG? I'm not implying that you don't.:)

    Reverse loop

Digitrax makes an auto-reversing unit called the AR1. I have used this and the MRC A/R module. They both cost about $24 and both work well. Simple 4-wire hookup. Tony's Train Exchange also has combo circuit protector and A/R module for a little more. See the Digitrax site for detail and...

    MRR Layout Database

Great work Shaun! I've added your site to my layout links book marks. Good idea. Let me know if you need any back issues (Although I don't really have a lot.)

    easy dcc

All the guys at my local train store use Easy DCC and really like it. It's made here in the Dallas area. I use Atlas because that's what they (LTS) recommended (relatively low price 4 years ago.) http://www.cvpusa.com I think I would choose NCE now, but I'm sure that Easy DCC is a good...

    Books on Railroad Operations

Uniform Code of Operating Rules I know that many of the folks on this forum are MRR "Operators"; operations being one of your favorite aspects of the hobby. I've noticed many references to "rules" of operation here and this may help some of those like me who are "just getting their feet wet"...

    Uncoupling magnets

I use the McHenry under-track magnets. They work fine and cost only $1.58 each at my LTS. They also come with a yard-worker (brakeman?) figure for a position marker, but the figures can be used for other things. I use Evergreen square rod to make something like a mile-marker post to...

    seeking short passenger cars

Trainworld has some 60' Rivarossi heavyweights for about $89 for 4 I believe. See the latest MR or http://www.trainworld.com/pdfs/TWAHO6_05.pdf (Left column on page 2.)

    Turntable and Reverse Loop

A turntable is a reversing section. Some TTs have reversing circuits build (Atlas and the New Walthers???). Some don't like the old Walthers like I have. It needs an A/R module wired just like a "standard" reversing loop (Wires to each rail and wires to the track bus or main track...

    Using DCC with multiple locos

And if you're running steam helpers (And why wouldn't you?) you can actually have a different "engineer" controlling each loco. Pretty neat, huh?

    Accessory Lighting

An ATX PC power supply makes a great utility power supply. It's easy to "clean" one up so that it has 3.5VDC, 5VDC and 12VDC outputs and one unit will provide gobs of power (250 watts up, depending on the unit.) They are about $15 new and you can often get one free. Here's one I...
