    Netscape 7.0

I don't want to start a Netscape/IE war here in the grand DCC style, but I will only relate this. Before there was IE anything I was using netscape - version 1.2 or something. I didn't know then that it was to become the program it is today, but it was all that was available at the time to a...

    Time to get started.......

Hi Bob - Welcome to the Gauge. Listen to these guys and think ahead. They're right. My biggest mistake was to not plan the layout first.... it's more than fitting the track into a space. These guys will be able to help you do just that and a whole lot more.

    Tortoise Wiring

    Tree and other materials

If you want to save money on trees (and other things), do what I say and no one will get hurt. Get in your car and go to two places; Wal Mart and Michael's. If there's no Michael's, any arts and crafts store of size. Wal Mart: go to the fake flower isle and look for a rack full of dried...

    Tortoise Wiring

Hoping to help someone like so many have helped me, I've put a page on my site specific to wiring up Tortoise turnout motors using a control panel and LED turnout indicators. Just stop by and click on "tortoise wiring diagram". I'm curious what others may think. It works great. Link to the...

    New Contest Idea

Here's some: "Mom is going to kill us for being on the floor in our Sunday suits." "I told you your Roach collection didn't make for good engineers!" "Insert part A into part B, unless part C is connected to part D, and only after part H has been twisted to fit part G inside of part N...

    New Contest Idea

How about another contest - a CAPTION contest? Here's a picture from Life Magazine, circa 1939, that I've placed on my web site with the original caption. How about you coming up with a caption of your own? Everyone votes, etc., and the winner gets.... gets...... uh.... Shamus...

    Most Annoying

here's another - going to any forum to ask for assistance and being told your device isn't any good because it's not the same brand as theirs, isn't compliant or operates differently than theirs - and never getting a competent answer to your problem. Even "I don't know" is better than the...

    Let's Talk SOLDERING

Okay - I need to know the steps involved with tinning a soldering iron and tinning wires. Who's going to step up and help out this soldering neophyte?

    Most Annoying

I've got two for now: Cleaning the track (using alcohol that works GREAT) and leaving that one turnout yet to be wired in the wrong direction - sending my loco into the bumper. <smash> An old little brass engine a friend gave me is giving me fits trying to keep it running.

    Tip o' the Day

Ceesors? I don' need no steenkin' Ceesors! I jus tears 'em off wit my teeths, man. Okay - seriously... what about the old X-Acto for decal cutting. I am ordering blank 8.5 x 11 decal paper and just assumed that I could use the blade. Am I wrong? (I know I know - it has to be sharp or it will...

    Proto 2K E8 Questions

You know what? There was a coupler installed on the front - I just thought I had taken it off. You know what I did? I took the front coupler off. You know what happened? The wheels didn't come off the track. So I took a closer look at the protrusion the coupler clip goes on and noticed it has...

    Proto 2K E8 Questions

I'm not experienced enough to tell the difference between trucks if there is something not obviously wrong. I can't swap them because 2 of the screws that hold the thing together are so tight (or glued down) I couldn't get them off - and may have stripped them. As to the track, I tested this...

    Proto 2K E8 Questions

Hey Gary, Thanks for the response. I'd actually think that the track was at fault too, but no other locos have issue with it and when I simply turn the E8 around and run it in the same direction it's fine as well. I just know the front truck is the point of failure.
