    The Hills of LaRue

Thanks Gus. "Back in the days"? It's changed a lot probably. The WSOR operates the line now and it only sees about 5-10 trains per week. Tell me, when you were scuba-diving there, ever hear(or see)about the rumoured steam loco laying in the water? When I hogged on that line old heads told of it...

    The Hills of LaRue

Thanks everyone!! Galen, That's a great idea. The CNW did have a slide detector at Devils' Lake here and that is in the general area that I model. The scene is FAR from complete and I really only took these photos to see how well they did under the light. More to come....... Johnny

    The Hills of LaRue

There is a little town called LaRue that due to it's high amount of sandstone bluffs, is the source of sand for online cement customers. The M.C.o.W. hauls the sand in ex ore-jennies that are in captive service. This area also sees some steam action ocassionally as the nearby North Freedom...

    Luck - and bad luck!

RailRon, First congrats on the engine. Cool that you have that kind of former employer. The 478 looks great and think about this, although you have to relay the turnouts, and realign track, Think how cool it will be watching that baby roll through your pike!! Johnny

    New Diorama

Will that's a pretyy neat project your doing. A great way to share the hobby with 'new' prospects. A great visual. The side with the tree is a great idea for presentation. Can't wait to see how it all turns out and the response you get. Johnny

    Can you buy this?

The track you speak of is indeed a 'gauntlet' track. The CNW had one on a bridge over the Wisconsin River at Merrimac, Wisconsin. I replicated the bridge and track by using handlaid code 83 rail. Although you could probably use the methods in this thread, it looks to me to be much more work with...

Progress update on the Madison Central of Wisconsin

Thanks Guys, John R.--The inspiration for these comes from the Rock Springs Quarry near Baraboo, Wisconsin. It's pretty much how they look, with a lot of 'quartzite' in these hills it gives them that purple-ish hue that you see in the photos. Miles-- Blending the scene is what took so long...

Progress update on the Madison Central of Wisconsin

After getting some work done on the Madison Central of Wisconsin, I thought I'd post some progress shots of the High Bridge near the Ablemann quarry. The bridge and quarry dioram were meant to have 3 feet of space for transition between them but space constraints prevented that. I butted the...

    HO Scale American Freedom Train

Showcase Car No.41 The first cars back from the engine to carry artifacts were the two 'showcase' cars. These cars were ex-baggage cars that were fitted with three large four-pane windows per side allowing viewers from the ground to see the contents of the cars. These cars were always open and...

    HO Scale American Freedom Train

In 1975-1976 the United States was treated to a train full of historical artifacts that criss-crossed the Nation. This train was known as the American Freedom Train. It was a beautiful 25 car train pulled by various steam locomotives. The train visited thousands of U.S. cities and would lay-over...
