Six-Axle Diesels and Table Top Dimensions

Chris, I haven't seen it mentioned here but Atlas makes 24" radius sectional track which will more than handle modern diesels. You would have to construct a 5x9 table to allow for the larger radius but you would also gain some extra space. I have a couple C44-9's that do make it around a 22"...

Who has the best price and service?

Hey Steve, I've ordered from both Trainworld.com and 1stplacehobbies.com and they are both good. The prices are similar and the shipping was quick with both. If you do order from Trainworld keep this in mind. You better know what you want ahead of time because they are very "efficient" on the...

    Jan 4th Weekly Photo Fun

Awesome photos everyone!!!:thumb: It's been a while so I thought throw one in the mix. Here we have the Straitsville turn stopping to switch the very busy Monday Creek #4 mine on it's way back to Nelsonville, Ohio. One of the mine workers climbed on his rooftop to capture the leased Reading unit...

    Indiana & Ohio Railroad?

Trainsteve - You've picked a great little railroad to model if I do say so myself. The I&O is near and dear to my heart and the inspiration behind my screen name. I spent my impessionable years visiting the Logan shop and a good friend of mine was a mechanic/conductor for the pre-Railtex I&O so...

    Radius question

I would like to help but first I would like to know exactly what is happening. Is the SD pulling the taconite cars off the rails around the curve? And do you use horn hook or knuckle couplers? And what radius are you using now? Let me know and I'll see what I can offer.

    How about some locomotive pics....

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I really worked hard on these and you comments are inspiring. I think I may just go ahead and finish my Chessie/EL U36C and Chessie/C&O Dash 9-44CW. Glen-Those RDC's are indeed old Atheran rubber band drives. I had to replace the rubber bands one...

    How about some locomotive pics....

Ok, so I forgot one last photo. This one is of my Dash 8's together waiting for thier first run on my layout. I hope you've enjoyed seeing my roster of custom locomotives. Now that I've shown you my locomotives, I want to see what you all have on your layout. Best wishes to all and happy model...

    How about some locomotive pics....

The second retro modern unit is a C&O Dash 8 40-C #504. Same story as before plus I'm a huge C&O and Chessie fan so this unit is quickly becoming my favorite.

    How about some locomotive pics....

Alright you've endured pics of average ho hum motive power and maybe the SD20-2 caught your attention but they are nothing compared to the next two pics. These are from my "What If" series. First up is B&O Dash 8 40-CW #616. At one time I planned on modelling my own freelance road in the modern...

    How about some locomotive pics....

Ok, only three left for now. But these are good ones and I think you'll like them. This is an SD20-2 #7700. I also found this little gem on Ebay and I paid more than I should have but I had to have it. True to the prototype it was modified from an SD35 and custom painted(not by me).

    How about some locomotive pics....

These aren't locomotives but I had to show them anyway. They are a pair of PC tractor trailers that I found tucked back in a corner of my favorite hobby shop.

    How about some locomotive pics....

Here are a pair of powered RDC's that I got for a steal on Ebay. I haven't lettered them yet but I may letter one for C&O and one for a local mine company.

    How about some locomotive pics....

Here are a pair of Penn Central SD45's #6130 & 6147. I have another SD45 that I may paint into C&O or Chessie paint just to see what it would look like.

    How about some locomotive pics....

Here is Penn Central U28C #6533. It was originally supposed to be a C&O unit but I didn't have enough C&O decals so it's now a PC unit.

    How about some locomotive pics....

Next is PC GP38-2 #8064. I still have to add number boards to this one but it's otherwise finished.

    How about some locomotive pics....

Next is a pair of Penn Central C628's #6304 & 6312. These are AHM units that I bought on Ebay and repainted them. I love big power and these things were torture on rails.

    How about some locomotive pics....

Next is C&O SD35 #7430. I was my first Atlas engine and I mowed a lot of yards to buy it. I've had it for probably 15 years and it still runs great.

    How about some locomotive pics....

Next up is a C&O SD40 #7562. Yes I know it's really an SD40-2, but I will eventually modify it back to a true SD40.
