    Claptrap from Borderlands

Thanks for the kind words. I am making a conscious effort to document my process more. For a while I avoided it as I felt I was too green and had nothing to add. Eventually you realize you always feel that way no matter how much you improve. When thinking about the best way to train my method...

    Claptrap from Borderlands

Just finished working on my most recent build and this time it's actually a buildable model. It's from the video game Borderlands. For those that are not familar with the franchise Claptrap is kinda a hybrid between R2D2 and C-3P0 personality. You can see the full post on my blog along with a...

    building my own snowspeeder

Sorry to hear the back box is not the right size. I was not 100% sure what the problem was based on your post but If you need any help feel free to PM me as I do alot of scratch building and would be happy to help. If what your needing to build is a box shape then that is not too bad. I would...

    building my own snowspeeder

Holy Crap! based on those reference photos not only did the pilots not have legs they had giant tubes impaling them and we thought the empire was bad. In all seriousness though, here are some drawings done for the wizkids line of simple card models. They have the snowspeeder among a few other...

    Aries 1-B

I will be following this thread. Your build is very well done and all the details are looking excellent.

One of the things I love about your builds is you show detail shots for a while and I forget how big the model is. Then I see screenshots like these and remember this thing is huge. Also, if you cant figure out a solution for the arms and legs dont worry if I remember correctl ILM had the same...

Excellent work and your attention to detail must be commended. The cockpit is turning out great and it keeps getting better with each update.

    Cockpit

I often have the same problem and what works well for me is to cut out the window frame shape twice and then cut the window to be slightly larger than the opening. I then glue the window betwen the two frames. That way even if the window does not stay attached well It's wedged between to sheets...

    My Y-Wing Build

Not sure whats next at this point. I am going to take a brief break though before my next project. I was kinda toying with the idea of an X-Wing, Vader Tie, or Mech from Battletech. Thought the AT-ST would be fun too. I need to retire so I can spend more time on my hobbies.

I love all the details they really make the model come to life. Its going to really look good once you have the pilots in there to play with all the gizmos :thumb: Are you scratch building all the details for this?

    My Y-Wing Build

Again, thanks for all the kind words it keeps me wanting to build more. I only recently found this forum and have already learned a bunch of new tricks some of which I incorporated In this build. I really want to try out this super glue method I have seen produce some impressive results and I'm...

    My 1:18 Thunderfighter build

Excellent and clean build. Really impressive and I love this model. Sadly I have never seen any of the Buck Rogers series but this build is making me think I should give it a try.

    Halo 4 DMR mk2 (a w.i.p )

This model looks excellent and the orginal gun has a good number of hard edges which means it will convert to paper very realistically. Sorry to hear about the save thing, I am sure we have all been there and man is it beyond frustrating. I can't wait to see this model unfolded and built. I...

    My Y-Wing Build

Spent a late last night, getting the model finished and I am very happy with the final result. I also quickly put together a basic stand for it out of some foamcore and a dowel rod. I attached a few pictures but you can see all 18 of the photos on my blog here...

    My Y-Wing Build

If your warning about something being large I might have to reconsider :) . Your right though, even with how small the scale is, it would still probably be something along the lines a museum exhibit. As far as the paint, I do use reference photos. The problem though with old school effects...

    My Y-Wing Build

I'm really glad I found this forum, The encourgament is defeniately keeping me going strong on the project. Plus it's nice to finally know other card modelers I can learn from instead of always having to figure it out myself. Eventually I would like to build Vaders Tie and lukes Red 5. I then...

Impresive build. I cant believe the scale you build on. Your X-Wing was really impressive so I cant wait to see how this one will look finished. Also hoping there will be room for LEDs. If you are worried about space you might considering using one LED and then use fiberoptics for directing...

    My Y-Wing Build

Thanks! I was starting to get concerned with how it was going to look once the paint was on, but was happy that it turned out how I intended. I typically use acrylic model paint intended for pewter minatures. I have personally used Reaper, Citadel, and P3 paints. The paint is high in pigment...

    My Y-Wing Build

I agree Zathros, I have come to not be such a purist. Ultimately I chose paper as a medium because it's inexpensive and easy to work with, relatively speaking. Wire, and putty definately hold to the same qualifications and few fault you for adding other materials. Have some updates. Got the...

    My Y-Wing Build

Thanks, I always feel like I am cheating when I dont use paper so it is good to know I have not commited Card Model sacrilege. When I first started I used 100% paper but now I make a few concessions. Ultimately the goal is to still use inexpensive and easy to work with materials. I have tried...
