The Home of Norfolk and Western’s Merrimac Subdivision

Layout Update - April 7, 2007 Well, it is too cold here this weekend to golf, so I decided to work on the layout (a BIG plus that the wife went away for the weekend, so I didn't have a honey-doo list :D ). So I waited all week on my delivery of turnouts. I decided on the Code 83...

Caulk vs Woodland Scenics Foam Tack Glue

How do you get into that area??? It looks like it is only about 24" between the floor and ceiling. I've been using a number of things. To put my extruded foam down on the bench, I use the Liquid nails for foam. To place anything on top of the foam, like roadbed, I use the el cheapo white...

    Question on Track Types

I diagramed my trackwork using Atlas RTS. Sine it is an Atlas product, all it offered in the way of track was the Atlas brand. So I used Customline Code 83 #4 and #6 turnouts. Now, I am thinking of using the Walthers/Shinohara DCC friendly #4 and #6 Code 83 instead of the Atlas ones. So the...

The Home of Norfolk and Western’s Merrimac Subdivision

Weekend Update - April 1, 2007 Hello all  ! It was a rather productive weekend here at the Hylton (at least as far as my railroading goes). I conned a buddy of mine at work into running with me to the local home improvement store to get extruded foam (he has a pickup truck); it only...

I've also heard the rumormill grinding about another local North Carolina railroad getting their hands on a few F units as well; The Aberdeen Carolina and Western. I'll have to check it out on my next trip to Pinehurst.

See what my wife has to put up with

bigsteel, thanks for reminding me about the garage. I have half of it with my stuff (things to do work around the house, you know, mine), and the other half is for her car. Her car has been in the driveway for two weeks now; I needed room for my lumber and compound mitre saw and workbench.

See what my wife has to put up with

I do have my own train room. It is mine, and no one else's (OK except maybe for the cat, who likes to lay on the floor and watch me work). But, since I have started building my layout, it seems that I have been taking over other rooms in the house with my train related things. So far I have...

    Photograph critique needed

Herc, personally, I think it needs some shadows to give it more depth. As for the color reproduction, I think you need to set up the shot the same way, but using your different types of bulbs in each one. Then you can look at it side by side to see what looks best/most realistic. My thoughts.

The Home of Norfolk and Western’s Merrimac Subdivision

I've always wanted a convertible TruckLover, thanks for stopping by and looking. That is going to be the plan to document everything that gets done to the layout. eightyeightfan1, no the foam is not going to be thrown away. You never know when you might need to use it for something else...

The Home of Norfolk and Western’s Merrimac Subdivision

Curves on Corners Russ, thanks for the heads up. I have not thought that far through yet, but I am not going to leave the corners at 90*; there will be some sort of curve placed into the corners. As for the materials, I haven't yet decided. Herc, good to hear from you again! Still flying...

New Acquisitions for My Train Room

Last weekend, one of my good friends was thinking about me. It seems that a friend of her late father was an artist. The man has since died as well, but did some incredible pen and ink drawings. Two of them caught my friends eye; they were scale drawings of two steam locomotives. The man's...
