Railroad Come Back to Central & Northern Wisconsin

I was going to only post these in my thread "Railfanning the WC", but they seem equally appropriate here. These are clips from a video I shot in that area in 2003. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbDLOaN2Eqs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1CHM9foqDNI...

list of 6 Axle diesel on 18" radius

Geeps are by far the most prevalent locomotive on my roster as well. The six-axle locos don't get much use because as stated earlier the F-M Trainmaster is the only one that seems to handle the 18" curves okay.

list of 6 Axle diesel on 18" radius

Athearn F-M Trainmaster handles 'em okay, Athearn SD40-2, P2K E6A, and P1K Erie-Builts do not, all make squealing or grinding noises as if the truck mechanism is being strained.

One more #25. If you've seen "Stand By Me" you've seen this engine. http://www.trainweb.org/mccloudrails/PassengerOperations/SteamLoco25.html

    By the numbers

Marquette & Huron Mountain, a tourist line that operated in the Michigan UP during the 1960s. The locomotive originally worked for the Lake Superior & Ishpeming and that is the livery it is being restored to.

    By the numbers

Here's another #22. My own pictures of the locomotive don't work since it doesn't currently bear the number, its paint is stripped off while it undergoes restoration.

A Fall Sunday Walk-Scopin' Out the Tracks

"Exempt" can mean a line is abandoned, but usually doesn't. It means that vehicles that usually have to stop and scan the crossing-school buses, hazardous materials trucks etc, don't have to stop. I see it more often used at crossings right next to road intersections, on divided roadways (such...

A Fall Sunday Walk-Scopin' Out the Tracks

I've been hearing train horns from campus with no idea where exactly they're coming from for the last 2 school years, so I decided to spend a free Sunday afternoon on what will probably be one of the last nice days of the season to take a walk and locate the railroad tracks. I found them...

What do you think of IHC loco's

All my HO steam (plus 1 diesel) is either IHC or an IHC OEM. I have no complaints, they have all been reliable and smooth runners although the 2-6-0 and 2-8-0 especially could benifit from some extra weight as they spin their wheels when trying to start much more than 10 cars.

    Railfanning on the WC

Finally got a chance to grab some frames from the video I was taking. I'm working on getting the entire video on YouTube, but it's causing me a lot of problems right now. :curse: Our first view of the train, about 3 miles west of Milladore. There wasn't time to get out of the car before the...

First Attempt at Making a Crossing

Nice crossing. One thing you might want to consider is signals/signage. For this narrow little road the lone crossbuck works, but not on crossings for more well-traveled roads, urban areas etc. I posted a thread awhile back looking for people's experience with scale grade crossing signals and...

Freight car of the week pt. 7

These pictures show my recently aquired Railgon and Monon gondolas. I also have a Chicago & Eastern Illinois covered gondola and a very old-style (late 19th or early 20th century) Louisville & Nashville one. No pictures of those though.

    HO Scale Promentory Point Re-Enactments

I dunno Don, she musta snuck over from one of the "Hell on Wheels" towns to spend some "quality time" with the tracklaying crews. :thumb: The UP #119 is an IHC model and runs great, it even outpulls some of our bigger steam engines. The CP #60 is a cheap plastic dummy (notice the lack of main...

    HO Scale Promentory Point Re-Enactments

Set these up awhile back. Based on this photo although A.J. Russell I am not. It would probably help if the layout had Utah scenery, but hey I got the right engines so why not? I didn't have the proper tender for the Central Pacific engine at the time so I had to borrow the one from my AT&SF...

    Weekend 10-7 Museums???

Johnny pretty well summed up the major Wisconsin museums, so I'll let the pictures tell the rest of the story. http://sphs.angeltowns.net/A_R_Wehrle/railroad/steam.html#MidContinent http://ayaredubya.blogspot.com/2006/08/saturday-august-19-in-sauk-county.html...

    Friday 10-6, Near or Far?

I grew up in Madison, WI just about 2 blocks from the Johnson Street yard. Our house near Stoughton (which we moved to in 1999) is a couple miles from the WSOR Madison subdivision (between Madison and Janesville) but we can hear the train horns pretty clearly as they blow for the crossing at...
