Announcing plans for two new challenges

That was my impression as well. It also comes complete with the measuring rod against the side there. I won't really need it though because I also have a dimensional line drawing too. I pulled it from the LOC.

Announcing plans for two new challenges

Here is my structure. I like the looks of it. It is from a farm that is in the Dunes National Park in Indiana. The farm had a sugar shack. It won't be a sugar shack on my layout but I love the look of the building. It will be a plaster base (unless I find a cement block texture in N scale that I...

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

It is easy to get the end walls to thick. If you do it can lead to other problems when you start glueing the walls together. A little on the thick side is fine. Mine were a lot too thick and it wasn't good.

"Hobos" Good or Bad or Dont Care

Amen on that Clark! A bo wouldn't even bother getting off of a train there unless he was going to get caught by a bull if he didn't. There would have been markers all over the yard warning that it was not a hospitable place. I think I have found a place to put on my "Never Visit" list...

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

Tell me about it! This is a very simple looking little model made from paper! How long can it really take??? The issue is how the maker put the thing together. Those end walls are VERY strong and do not behave like paper when laminated together per the instructions. All the building up takes...

"Hobos" Good or Bad or Dont Care

I would be okay with it. They were in the back hiding and didn't hurt anything. They didn't steal anything. In this day and time it would be pretty hard to not be able to work for a bit of food. As busy as everyone is, someone will have some minor job that needs done that would be a fair...

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

That is exactly what we thought when he posted it. It has lots of application as an add on. Yes, the texture sheets are great if you are going to be doing some paper covering. Pretty cheap too. I think they are something like 2.50 a download and again you can print all you want. Not a bad...

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

After trying white glue and also using CAA, I can tell you the spray adhesive works best. Carpenters glue should work better than white glue. Stick glue didn't seem to be sticky enough. As for the pictures, Ocalicreek, I would post mine here but honestly there are a lot of them in the thread...

Ocalicreek builds a scalescenes.com card structure!

I have built this one and you will know if you have the thickness right when you start attaching the skinds and wrapping them around. I had mine too thick and the wrapping was terrible. I printed off another copy and will be starting again in the near future with thinner stock this time. Great...

    Critical Measurements Needed

Check out the Library of Congress' Historical American Building Survey. You can search for various types of industrial buildings and get some good line drawings that often show heights and such.

    Turn that volume up!

:thumb: That is a pretty cool show. I caught that Roarin' Runby's show. A sweet sound system treats that show right!:thumb:

    Edaville Water tank

I just watched Trains and Locomotives last night on RFDTV. It should be on again on Friday with the same episode but it was all about the Edaville RR. Pretty amazing stuff! There are a few scenes with the water tower in it. The video dates from 91 or 92.

Have you ever seen this done?

I will have to do that Tom. My brother is a machinist and has access to a large sandblaster. It would be free.

Have you ever seen this done?

I too have an instance where they were doing some road work in my town and unearthed some interurban rail. Best part is besides the historical society and the mayor, no one was as quick about claiming it as I was. The company that was doing the work is just down the street from me. I got a nice...

Code 55 - Atlas vs. Micro Engineering

I hope to start handlaying code 55 in N scale very soon. It isn't any more difficult than a larger scale. For HO, there are no tie plates and nearly prototypical spikes available that make premade track look terrible. The plates have even have a spike left out on each plate. It is for using with...

What can i use to mobel rebar

Glad you liked it Don. I wouldn't go through the mental anguish of putting it anywhere it woudln't be easily visable. Too much work and stress! I think the material has a lot of possible uses. I just am not at the stage for experimenting with it yet.

What can i use to mobel rebar

Good rebar material in N scale can be found in a dead mouse. The kind for your PC, not the kind your cat plays with.... Find a discarded mouse or buy a new, ultra cheap one. You should be able to get this for about $5 new. Cut the cord off. Inside the cord are 3 wires and a ground cable. The...

    Conrail fans do not look.

A heinous crime to be sure! I wouldn't mind CSX so much if they would adopt the Conrail blue. They were nice to look at! I see CSX every day and they are about as boring as it gets! Nice job on the conversion. I do see quite a few that look pretty similar to that. Fewer and fewer of them though...
