    HMS RODNEY my Kitchen

Progress Report: 38 hrs on kitchen vs. 10 hrs on Rodney. I have the Rodney's skeleton finished. I will now add strips to each buckhead for applying the skin. I am using black card stock instead of white just to see how it looks. I will post the preskin photos once I get there. The deck is...

    HMS RODNEY my Kitchen

In response to the deck question, I only place the main deck on 1/16 balsa, very close to 2mm as recommended by the designer for card stock thickness. 1/32 is close enough for 1 mm and I some times use that for the superstructure decks although except for the first superstructure deck most of...

Victorian battleships and steamships..can anyone help?

Here is a good one from not too long ago in a Fine Scale Modelers mag. US aircraft manufactures are exploring other revenue streams including royalties for all models of their particular subjects. Claim is they own the artistic rights to the aircraft. What is the worl coming to.

    HMS RODNEY my Kitchen

Some more photos of my progress. Pic 1-3 are the Rodney's skeleton. Nothing is glued just placed in position. The process has been very smooth so far. In picture 1 you will see on the left in the trailer the kitchen's right side. I will take it to the village dump shortly. The second picture...

    HMS RODNEY my Kitchen

7 and 4 7 hours into the kitchen and 4 into Rodney. Rodny still leads in fun time 4 to 1. I had a bad round of golf and took it out on the kitchen, hence the 1 good hr. Amazing what you find when you tear into your pre-owned home. The Rodney deck has glued very well onto the balsa backing...

    HMS RODNEY my Kitchen

I decided to build the HMS Rodney this summer while alos rebuilding the kitchen. In a previous thread I said Junyo was next but oh-well. Any way, I believe the Fly Model Rodney to be more difficult and more time consuming than my 42 yr old kitchen. I plan to spend this summer on both and thought...

Le Courbet French battle cruiser from Modelik

I have not seen the Courbet form Modelik yet. I did just finish their model of Paris, photos are here on this site. Is the model of Courbet of WWI or WWII? The Paris also sailed to British ports and Courbet and her were likely very similar in appearance at that time.

    French Battle Ship Paris 1940

I laminated the main deck and all other large surface area decks to balsa 1/32 sheet using white glue. I laminated the false deck, keel, and bulk heads to 1/16 sheet balsa with a glue pen. After the glue pen dried I scribed all of the paper formers and applied thin CA. The glue pen does not...

    French Battle Ship Paris 1940

Finshed model. The ships hull is fairly decent, I only added strips at each bulkhead and nothing on the above waterline. I love the links on the Junyo question I posted recently that shows an iteresting way of building the upper hull and improving its fit. I will try this when I build my Junyo.

    Anwer's Junyo

I have never seen that before, it definately seems to work very well. I will try this when I make mine. It looks like they added a normal thickness outer skin, the went back and measured and glued the heavier stock on the inside of the white skin from bulkhead to bulkhead. A great techinque...

    Anwer's Junyo

Does anyone here also have a copy of the superb looking Japanese carrier Junyo from Answer in 1/200 scale? I am contemplating my next major project and am seriously thinking of building her. The kit looks daunting at best. If anyone else has built or starter it i was hoping they may have a few...

    French Battle Ship Paris 1940

I am almost finished detailing the Paris. All that remains are the single deck mounted secondaries, the casemate barrels, two out rig derricks with boats, the screws, and rigging. This model has been a pleasure to build. A ship of little historical importance, but the ship it self is so...

    Silkspan for hulls?

I think that won't help much as it shrinks, it will contour toward the center of the bend leaving a nice wavy surface just like an airplane wing.

    French Battle Ship Paris 1940

I started the Modelik Paris hull a few weeks back after recieving it. I was still working on the USS Porter but just had to dive into this ship. I got so wound up in that I only did just go back to finish the Porter. This is one of the best hulls I ever built. I used balsa 1/32 sheet for the...
