Is anyone concidering the new 5dcc system?

I think you are both missing the best feature of this new system. With the potential power of the 5DCC system you could run super long 100 car trains using 2 engines up front and 2 engines cut in behind as helpers to "push" you through the tunnel until you reach the other side. It's a brilliant...

Sorry to take so long to get back. Going back, someone asked how a tank got to portola. Well I didn't have an answer good enough to tell so I did some digging. The only problem is I asked 5 people and got about 8 different answers...my kind of luck. The best couple were, "I don't know but there...

    Passenger Operations?

If i remember right Chuck Hitchock's Santa Fe Railroad was all about passenger operations for the Santa Fe. In model railroader he had articles about the details of passenger operations, much more complex than i thought. You have a lot of pullman cars getting transferred to different trains and...

    Point to point logging operations

There was variation even on the same stretch of track for the same company. Sometimes they would run backwards, other times they would back up the hill and be facing the right way on the way back. In case of the West Side Lumber Co they had balloon tracks and wyes in the woods to turn their...

Rusty, Glad things are going well for you. Dont let the SD experience bum you out. Sometimes the day, time, and people make all the difference. I know of a guy who has a layout as you describe but his layout has been down for sometime due to problems with getting DCC up and running. If i can...

Is the Real Thing getting, well, blah?

Of course, one might say that we are being too picky. No matter what the train is, I still am in awe of the power of todays locomotives. On a recent trip to truckee on the Union Pacific former SP donner pass route I had the fortune to witness a westbound freight gaining power to tackle the pass...
