when 2 locos are used when switching how easy is it to seperate them to switch individually ? is it simply a matter of uncoupling ? obviously there must be 2 crews which brings up another question. do the 2 crews communicate with radio or what other method is used ? i have just read about...

    Help with layout

floyd as I understand it you have 2 benches- 1 4x8 and 1 2'6 x 7' with a joining bench 38" x 30" between them. this means the benches are 38" apart. is this right? any simple 4x8 plan could be done on the east side with perhaps a branch line elevated to the west side. if you could put a...

    Wiring help needed for yard

I use methods 1 and 2 to attach my feeders [ mostly 1 ] I also don`t worry about insulating the joins as I make sure I strip the insulation off 2 or 3 inches apart then there is no chance of a short.

    wheel plating

I have on old kato RS11 which am starting to have problems with. it appears that the plating on the wheels has almost worn off and operation is fairly erratic - a lot of light flickering and constant stopping on areas of track that other locos have no problems with. the wiring has checked...

    Newbie Questions

I don`t think expansion will be as big a problem as you seem to think it will be. however if you want to slide the rails it would probably be better to make it like a halved joint and not at an angle. tried to attach a small drawing without success trevor

    radio DCC

thanks MasonJar and caellis for your responses I now feel that it will be worthwhile to keep saving for a new throttle etc. as I already have a Digitrax system I will keep with that, although that lenz and phone looks like a good option trevor

    radio DCC

have been thinking about getting a radio throttle for my layout -- in the future ,can`t afford it at the moment! however when a normal radio is on in the trainroom there is a lot of interference when a train is operated. this radio is battery operated and not connected in any way to the house...

How to open/work on an Atlas S-2?

I googled atlas s2 and found a few decoder installations on tonys train exchange forum page. decoder would have to be placed in the cabin as there is not much room in the body. - like none I tried to fit a decoder many years ago but ended up wrecking the motor [not isolated from frame] just...

    staging yard detection

thanks YmeBP i checked out the site and it looks interesting although not quite what I was looking for. have checked prices for webcams and also security type cameras which connect to a tv monitor and to my surprise a security type is about the same price as a webcam, so if I go ahead will...

    easy decoder installations

I recently purchased an atlas trainman GP38-2 and couldn`t believe how easy the decoder installation was. didn`t have to remove the body just had to remove the dynamic brake hatch, unplug the 8 pin plug and insert the decoder plug. that was it. as a lot of posts are about decoder...
