    Alco RS Identification...

 If I remember correctly, (At my age, those two words are not neccessarily synonomous) the RS-2's short hood is also narrower. Dick Texas Chief

    question

:thumb: Great page!!! I added it to my "Favorites". There were two dealers missing however, Toy Train Heaven and Trainworld. The latter is by far the best of all of them. Dick Texas Chief

    Anybody know what this is?

 A speeder is a motorized "handcar". Work gangs would sometimes ride them out to a problem spot and lift them off the track while they worked on it. Some were covered, some weren't. The men would all sit on it sideways with the forward most person operating the controls. They would only...

    Other hobby's?

:thumb: My other hobbies are collecting die cast model cars, which right now is only a part time hobby, and up untill about two years ago, road racing sports cars, 1 to 1 scale. I had to take down all of my trophy's and store them to make room for my model train displays. Dick Texas Chief

    Rivarossi 0-8-0

 Pete...Contact Northwest Shortline. they make motors for all the old Rivarossi steam engines. I had a Riv 4-6-2 with no motor, I cut the plastic cradle out of it, filled the hole with clear silicon, hooked up the NWSL motor and sit it in the silicon. Now it's one of the smoothest...

    Santa Fe F7

:thumb: Probably PA's. Santa Fe used them to pull the Grand Canyon quite a bit and they bear a family resemblance to an Fa except considerably longer. Dick Texas Chief

    Santa Fe F7

:) Russ...I'm very curious, what was the road name on the FA's? I ask because the "Grand Canyon" was a Santa Fe passenger train from days gone by and they didn't own any Fa's. Thanks Dick Texas Chief

    Santa Fe F7

:thumb: Paul...The Genesis engines are a nice choice. If you can't find any, you might try Intermountains F7. It's every bit as detailed and while it doesn't have an interior, it does have lighted number boards. I believe they still make them and they also make a beautiful F3 in the War Bonnet...

    Amtrak banked rupt?

 I travel to Colorado from the midwest twice a year on vacation. Being a veteran, I get a substancial discount by taking the train, so therefore, it costs about the same to travel to Denver by train as by car. While I would enjoy the trip much more by train, It would cost more in the long...

What do ya'll think of these wheels?

:thumb: Yellowlynn...M.B.Klein is Modeltrainstuff.com and the cheapest you'll find Proto 2000 wheelsets anywhere, bar none!!! P2k wheels are good ones but they still don't hold a candle to IM wheelsets. I use P2k on almost all of my cars at the club and save my IM 's for my higher detailed...

What do you listen to when modeling/running trains?

:thumb: Jac's...I hate to disillusion you, but back in 1990 I was driving down the steep side of Mount Eagle in Tenn. heading toward Chatanooga when this large custom made bus (one of two that he owns) passed me, followed by a large custom moving van with J.C. on the side. I knew it didn't...

    Educate me about AHM

:thumb: Larry...You're right. It was toward the end of IHC's stint, I believe, that Rivarossi moved the motor from the cab to the boiler and shortened the flanges on the wheels. These two items did not occur at the same time on all locos however. For a short time, after they moved the motor...

    Educate me about AHM

:) Xavier...AHM had all their engines made in Slovenia and Yugoslavia for years before they contracted Rivarossi to build their engines and cars for them. Rivarossi was contracted to them for several years before AHM went belly up. At that point in time Model Expo took over the contract. That...

 Thanks guys for all the replies. You make me feel a lot better. Ron "The Fred on a thread" is about the most perfect description I've ever heard. Lynn, I haven't laughed this hard in a long time. That was a good one. Thanks again folks, I feel much better now!! Dick Texas Chief
